Anyone Setting Eggs Tonight 3/31/2011 - Come join me if you like!

i got an egg turn and it starts turning right away but it does it so slowly you can barely tell it's working until you see the egg cups in a different position....i did think about hand turning but 3-5 times a day was too much for me.

good to hear you got some fertile eggs, that's always exciting to hear and see!

i am officially on day 2 and won't candle until day 14...my first hatch i was obsessing and candling every day - I won't be doing that this time...i'm trying to relax and let the eggs do what they have to do -

i do however sniff the bator every day just to make sure i can catch a stinky egg before it explodes as i read that will kill all the other eggs and will take forever to get that smell out of the room and bator once it explodes.... yuch!

Freaking Out. I have no clue what happend but out of now where my incubator dropped to 95 degrees!!!!! I was only outside for about 20 mins but clearly thats all it took. Its taken about 10-15 mins to return to 99.5. Is this going to ruin my chance of hatchings since it was only for a brief moment? I assume it woul be no different than if I had removed the lid right? Now I have to set me temp all over it. I had it perfect for almost a day!

I don't think it will be a problem, mine has been dropping low as well, driving me crazy, LOL...I don't think that is any different then a hen getting up and going to eat/drink/stretch.....I hope some pro's will comment for you as well though...

i've never smelled a rotten egg (count myself among the fortunate from what I've read of those that have) so I figure it will be undeniable that you have a stinker, especially since my eggs and my bators don't really have a smell...won't take long to figure I have a stinker in the bator.....

Will you know the smell right away when you open it????

mine does that too!! but better a lower temp than a higher one I've read....my styrofoam bator is very temperamental and will make changes that I never expected and don't know why...fortunately, it's been holding steady since our weather warmed up...although it did spike to 102 when my husband took a shower - but I was ready for it, and just opened the lid until it dropped, added a little bit of water to the sponge and then it was right back to 100 degrees...whew!

Well, I have Marsh TurnX 7, I need to post a pic of it. It has a round plastic dome, and a layer of grid for the size eggs you are brooding and then a screen that the eggs sit on. When you turn the handles on the dome the eggs will turn all at the same time, simular to the smaller classroom type, you can buy a turner for it but I like to be involved in it. I can see all the eggs all the time. I purched this bator 10 Yrs. ago and have onlly used it twice. with great results. I followed the instructions the other times to let the eggs rest for 24 hrs to get warmed and humidified. then begin your turns 5 times a day if you want your best results or 3X at minimum. I have always had great results. but have never had shipped eggs before, so I feel a bit shakey and wonder if there is a better way now?

The auto turner begins to turn right away. Esp since you should have your incubator up and running for a few days with the egg turner running as well because it effects the temps. I had everything running for 3 days, Including the egg turner. The egg turner turns the eggs 6 times a day but does it very slowly.

artathart: I agree! I am going to buy a Brinsea Octa Eco with turner for my next hatch, this is ridiculous chasing these temps, LOL.....
