Anyone up to set their eggs on Valentine's day with me?

I don't use cartons. I keep the eggs on their sides just like the hen would. I tried the carton method and I just didn't like it. When I checked my eggs this morning I have four pips. Two of them are my friends RIR eggs. The worst part is I have to work this evening and tomorrow so I won't be here (for most of the time) to see them hatch

Ah they are a bit early!!!! WOOHOO !
Well i have decided upon the modified carton method LOL - i cut the cartons way down and cut a hole in the bottom - so they are a bit secure but will still lay like with momma - just to keep them in place nad not rolling all over! See if it works!

I thought so too, but I guess they are impatient. I don't understand how you put the egg in the cartons on their sides

I have been using egg cartons for my hatches and I like them. When the first chicks hatch they can crawl all over the other eggs with out playing soccer with them and the unhatched eggs still get the stimulation of the hatched chicks peeping and moving them slightly. I changed to stryofoam foam paper and humidity is easier to keep steady. Just my opinion.

I candled my 7 eggs and 5 look good, keeping the other 2 just in case, you never know they might catch up. Lock down this morning.

Oh well you have to keep in mind these are japanese bantam and Serama eggs - so they easily lie on their side in the cartons !
I am hoping mine dont try to come early till i lock them down tonight with extra humidity!!!!

Sat 25 serama eggs under 2 broodies on Valentines. Ended up having 14 make it to "lock down" under the broodies... 7 under each and are due this weekend, since tomorrow is day 18

Hi all! Just saw this thread. I have four broodies sharing three eggs...haha. We just had five chicks hatch about a month ago, so I really didn't want too many more chicks right now. Anyway, they started sitting on Valentines Day, so I'm waiting too.

I went into lockdown last night!
I am using cartons for the large eggs, but put the little banties in a carton top to lay flat..
all seem to be fine...
now... the waiting game begins! ugh... hard weekend coming up!
