Anyone want to hatch with me? - Went in 01/16/14.

I believe my broody is ahead of me in days, she has been on lockdown the last 2 days. She was getting off few minutes a day to potty and eat. I'm glad I candled when I did on her last break. Out of the 7 sitting, 1 clear, 1 didn't seem right with airsac but the others looked alright. Good luck everyone hope for lots of fuzzy butts!!
That is very good! Well done broody mum and Mamahen.lol.

Goo luck with your chicks as well.

I am going out of town unexpectedly. Left instructions for the family to turn today & tomorrow & then fill both cups with water & leave things alone. Sounds easy. Hatch day is supposed to be Thursday, the day after I get back. Boy I hope I don't miss it!

Good Luck Sepaditty's family

Hope you don't miss the hatch.

Day 20 here. I'm curious to see how this hatch goes! Lockdown really drives me nuts because I can't get in there to candle them.

I had my first chick hatching nightmare last night. I dreamed that my eggs never hatched and so I was going to throw them out, but then one started to hatch out in my hand. BUT THEN the chick inside didn't have it's yolk sac drawn in all the way.. What a nightmare!
I wonder what you would do if the yolk isn't drawn in all the way. Would it eventually be absorbed by the chick, or would you have to cull it? Would it even be alive and well if that happened? All I know is that in the dream, it was fine and that some little girl was trying to steal my hatched chicks.. Go figure!

DAY 20!!!

!!! We want chick picture IMMEDIATELY when they start pooping like pop corn ( which they will.lol. )

You are going nuts!!!
I think some chicks do hatch with not all of the yolk absorbed fully. You would have to check, but I believe that you just leave them and they will eventually absorb it or it just dries out.
Just keep an eye on them if that does happen.

I had a chick ( last hatch ) that had a length of about 3cm of dried yolk still attached to it's naval and I just cut it off ( not to close ) and the rest just fell off later. ONLY cut it off though if it is fully dried, not connected to the egg and doesn't look like veins or any sort of necessary body part!

Thank you for your input! :) I will keep that in mind. Unless it interferes with the chick's ability to walk and such, I'd probably just let the yolk dry up and fall off on it's own. I am a bit squeamish as far as cutting things off of living beings. lol
I just hope the hatch. Anytime tomorrow after 4pm.. Super bowl chicks!! I didn't even intentionally plan it that way.

No problem

.
I'm over here in Australia so we don't have the Super Bowl.lol.
Is it baseball?
Oops! Sorry! I forget that there are people all over the world on BYC! :) The Super Bowl is football. I'm not much of a fan of either sport, but with the Super Bowl on TV, they always have the very best commercials on, and so I love it for that reason!

Day 18 all looks good just candle them one last time
2 of the 6 golden comets were mostly clear
The others four look good.
6 of the 7 r.i.r. All are full with hardly any air bubble one egg is stuck in the carton so don't know about that one.
So 10 out of 13 sounds good for my first time building a bator!!

I candled Broody's (her real name is Rosie, btw) eggs again tonight, 4/4 loking great. I'm thinking hatch day is going to be sooner than I thought. The air cells look huge, and the chicks are so squirmy, I bet they cant wait to get out. Haha, good thing too, cuz neither can I. :)

Happy hatching!
