Anyone watch Whale Wars??

Freezer storage until they can sell it. Love the 2012 reference! We are planning 2 parties around that. One the night before called "Party like it's the End" and one the night after called "Yeah! The World is Still Here!" I wouldn't let any bills slide if I were you....

Maybe the Japanese are whaling because they want to, the Indians in Washington state had a whale hunt for ceremonial purposes which may be part of the reason The Japanese do it. FYI mercury is in almost all fish and mammals and vegetables so I am not too worried about a whale steak and not worried about birth defects as I am not planning on giving birth. Not to change the subject but you could just clone the whales and turn them loose but then Paul Watson would have to get a real job. The Sea Shepard and crew will most likely end up like Steve Irwin did sad but doing stupid things has consequences.

Seriously. Many Japanese don't eat whale and dolphin. A lot of them consider it meat for elderly people, since they had no choice but to eat it when they were young. The gov't in Japan does not have to release information about mercury in the fish that is sold there, and a lot of dolphin meat is packaged as something else. People have done DNA testing on packaged fish and found dolphin labeled as something else. Mercury, like many other toxins, bio accumulates as you go up the food chain, so the larger top-of-the-food-chain fish have a much higher concentration of mercury than small lower level fish.

Oh I know you are exactly right and I am well aware of the cove and these mass dolphin massacres. I was referring to the poster on cloning whales and the mercury not being a problem and the real job thing... your right on IMO!

The PCB's in fish at our local lake are so high that they recommend people don't eat the fish more than once a month. That makes me not want to eat it at all!

.I am not sure of your point here but if you are pointing out reasons to not eat fish or whale meat and assuming the people that do are all idiots and unaware of mercury poisoning you are arrogant. The people who eat those foods do not really care what others, especially Americans think of what they eat. some people eat dogs I don't do it or have a problem with those that do as long as it is not my dog. One of the reasons Americans are hated around the world is our lack of understanding and butting in to other countries cultural practices as if we know better. This old earth has been around a long time and can take everything that little ol' man has thrown at it. Mercury has been around for a long time way before modern testing back when fish and yes whales were a daily food to certain groups and mercury poisoning kills less people globally than childbirth, maybe we should quit that also...Seriously?

I don't recall saying that the individuals that eat the mercury infested meat are idiots nor did kla37. They are however uninformed of the actual mercury content in the meat and that is a fact and is documented! Arrogance... I don't think so!

Remember Star Trek III.

Why would the Japaneses invest so much into whaling if they don't use it or need it. To the Japanese image is everything. They wouldn't be doing something that is so badly looked upon if there wasn't a lot of money to be had. They are also very frugal and don't waste much. It's too bad about the whales.

As for the show. Those guys are doing it for the show in my opinion. Hollywood creates a lot of niche audiences and makes millions doing it. The Japaneses whalers are probably getting paid too.

When I said "I am not sure of your point here BUT"" means, if this was your implication THEN this would apply if not then no harm no foul. Try reading the entire text. When I said "not my dog" or "not giving birth" I was referring to my personal opinion on the matter which may be dogmatic but the truth nevertheless it also means I mind my own business and do not go around sticking my nose in other people business by telling them they are ignorant. Kinda like you taking it upon yourself to defend Kla37 "which I don't recall that person asking you to do" . The Japanese government does not babysit their citizens like the U.S. does. The whole point of my post was there are other problems in the world far more important than an illness like mercury poison to be concerned about, mercury is in almost everything we eat in some measurable level and it DOES dissipate over time and will exit the human body. The Japanese people are not as uninformed as you suggest, try giving them a little more credit than that. Just because someone does something in their culture you disagree with does not make them ignorant, there may be health related benefits to eating what they eat in their culture.
