Apparently I'm clinging to my youth.

I started getting gray hairs in my 20's. Panicked of course and started pulling them out one by one. When I realized I was pulling out so many, bald spots were showing, I stopped.

The gray hairs coming in were pure white not yellowy, decided I liked them. I'm 70 and have snowy white hair, some stubborn(?) hair at nape of neck is still dark (not my doing).

When I was younger my dark hair was straight and fine textured that I didn't have to "iron it" like other girls were doing. It just was stick straight and couldn't even hold a perm.

Once the gray started taking over, I got wavy and sometimes curly hair coming in. What a nice surprise.

My hair is natural blonde, but people have at times tried to say that I bleach it because for some reason, my roots and the hair near my neck are a dark almost gray brown. I have always had really dark roots and depending on how much sun my hair has been getting, near the ends it will be anywhere from white blonde to honey colored with the dark brown roots... it's weird...

I'm one of those that started out a natural blonde (platinum when I was a toddler) and it just darkened up as I got older. I started dying it back to blonde when I was in my 20s and quite finally about 5 or 6 years ago. It really wasn't until after I'd stopped dying that I realized I had a large family of grays coming in on both my temples. I really don't mind them, I kinda like them. Last time I got my hair cut, the lady offered to dye them and I told her not to worry about it. She said "oh, you like your squirrel fur."
My what?!

In my youth my hair was so thick, dark and silky. Hair stylists used to ask me if I conditioned my hair but my response was no because it was healthy enough not to need it. I did however start growing in grey hairs in my early 20s. 10 years ago my step mom got me addicted to coloring my hair, restoring my dark brown hair! I am 58 years old now I am developing small areas of very thin if not bald spots!! They are right on my crown so I am doing the comb-over thing to hide these hideous balding patches. :p I have considered rogaine or some such chemical but I am worried about the side effects.

Is anyone else suffering with wiry hair? I am 75% white now and the only way to keep this wiry, brillo type hair in check is to color it.

@TwoCrows, Stop using regular dye and start using henna. It thickens and smooths the hair shaft and it won't hurt you at all. I'm lazy so I get the Surya henna creme, put it on dry hair and let it set, sometimes for hours then wash it out. You can't mess it up,so if you get busy and can't mess with it you're still fine! No weird solid fake look either, it colors in highlights so nobody knows. For what you've lost and want back put black castor oil on the scalp and leave overnight, wash in the morning. It stimulates folicle activity. Another thing if you don't already do it, no more store shampoo. Go to lush.com or if you have a lush shop close get one of their shampoo bars or a liquid. I like the karma kooma bar, the cynthia syliva stout liquid or daddy-o which is purple so grey/white loves it "and it has a scent like my Grandma's dippity do had" i love that smell.:)

Lol! No shame, this is 4 months of just letting the greys/whites go wild. The shade of henna I use will turn them red. I just haven't had time to mess with them.:)

Thanks for the tips on products! I like the idea of the castor oil, that stuff has all kinds of healing powers. I guess I'm using all the wrong products. LOL I will look into these things immediately. Your hair looks fabulous! :)

Thanks so much!
