Hi! Been lurking here for a while, thought I should finally make an account ;) Thanks for all the advice, I've been learning a lot as a new chicken mom. I ordered some chicks about 4 months ago and received two appenzeller spitzhaubens. I ordered two females, but there's always a little error. Both my chickens seem "feminine", no large combs or wattles and I don't see obvious saddle feathers? However my pause is that they have VERY different spitz styles: one is what I would consider a more traditional appenzeller with a mohawk, and the other has more of a polish large crest. Is one therefore male and the other female? Or is this variability in the breed? Pics attached! "Eloise" - mohawk, "Kate"-crest, together Eloise is in back and Kate in front. (Also have "growing up" pics if we are interested in the progression.

Thanks!

Amazing. I love people pictures of their flocks!

I've always wanted Appenzeller Spitzhaubens! They look like beautiful girls!

If you order from a hatchery or feed store you'll always have little variations in different birds just because of the breeding stock.
