April 2017 chicks, who will lay first contest...

Pics
I've got 3 that are really close, but no eggs yet. The goose kinda nipped at one who then squatted for him. I had to go get him off her. He was so confused why she didn't just get out of his territory! It's like she got stuck in the squat.

Yay another noob laid today!:clap That super bitchy red sex link.... she was in the box when i went out to feed this mornin. Woohoo! Now it seems so quiet down there. Lol! She has been fussin for bout five days now. Finally! Some peace! :wee:lau. So now we got 4/16. :bun:yesss:

Yay! Hopefully the others follow suit soon. I still have 3 freeloaders.:hit Is there a good way to bribe them?

Haha heck if i know! Alls i do know is it is so nice n quiet in the run right now and it is awesome! Lol! She was at a constant bitchiness and doin it loud and proud all.day.long. The leghorns were quiet then one day a nugget followed a week later by two (one old and one new) white nuggets. Then the austrolorpe was bitchy only for a few days and then quiet After the boobie prize nugget so i figure the first brown layer was her. Then this one started and now all is quiet again. I have no hope for anytime soon with the brahma and the three partridge rocks though. Their combs and wattles are gettin a tad bigger and more red but they are all big birds... so mosy likely they will be a long time in comin for egglets.

What breeds do you have?

I have a Delaware, 2 Wyandottes, an Ameraucana, and a random mixed breed.

I think possibly that living in a cold environment slows things down a bit, and now the days are getting shorter again and we are getting below freezing at night again, which probably doesn't help, but they are my first chickens so I don't really know.

My friend go her first eggs last week and my neighbor got his first duck eggs today.

Lola my SLW is definitely close.

Lets talk insanity just for a moment.
I built a two story 160 sq. ft coop with 6 nesting boxes. Air conditioning, and heating, comfort fans, auto feeder and waterer. Only 7 laying hens, and they prefer to fight over 1 nesting box leaving the other 5 boxes completely empty! I even bought 2 acres of land, fenced in so my pets could free range. And they still squawk in defiance! Yes they are pampered pets born with a silver spoon in their beaks!

Air conditioning? May I please be a chicken at your place?

Sure,! There is plenty of room in the coop!
I'll say. Best not show my ladies, they might revolt and pack their bags for CA.

Actually, I think they'd move down there just for the beautiful winters (no -40 weather!) but I'm carefully not telling them what life could be like if they flew the coop. ;)
