April 2017 chicks, who will lay first contest...

Pics
I'll say. Best not show my ladies, they might revolt and pack their bags for CA.

Actually, I think they'd move down there just for the beautiful winters (no -40 weather!) but I'm carefully not telling them what life could be like if they flew the coop. ;)
Banty, be very careful what you say to the chickees, they are much more intelligent than we give them credit for! Which is why I never bought them a television!

I want to also see what my girls do during the eclipse also. Will it shake up their routine or what. Will they all go in the coop or just act like nothing is happening.
My girls had no problem with the eclipse, here in Cali we only had 1/2 of the sun gone for a very short time......
Still plenty of multi colored eggs!

Stella still has not laid her second egg. Nobody else has laid their first egg either. We did get two new birds though, also 20 weeks old, same as our other four. I'm thinking getting the new birds is probably stressing them all out a little and may delay our next eggs. Plus, it's supposed to be between 104-107 this next week starting tomorrow. Here is a picture of my new birds.

WOW! Those birds are "almost" as pretty as mine are,
but I'm kinda partial to mine due to raising them from eggs, into chickhood, then to pullets, then to Laying HENS! Barred Rock shown on my avatar pic. Big brown egg every day! mm mm Good!

IMG_0255.JPG We discovered our first egg today! We got our chicks at the end of April. My son is so excited! We were putting some knobs on the egg doors and noticed another one! We made the laying boxes accessible, but it seems whichever hen laid the first one liked the same spot and laid another within 2 hours of the firsts' discovery! Very egg-citing!

We suspect either our golden comet or silver laced Wyandotte was the layer.

So who is going to lay first? To keep it fair lets limit this to April 2017 chicks, grand prize is the adulation of all participants. The contest is not just when you get your first egg, but the day ALL of your flock lays for the first time that will keep it going longer.
So I have 7 from the first week of April and I expect my brown leghorn or golden buff will be my first layers. I have to get my nest boxes built soon!

Ok, GO!

Gary

Hoping egg laying is the right forum?

Hey Gary ! You been quiet bout your ladies lately. How they comin along? We got another noob today... it is green. :). Now i can have green eggs n ham right?

And i am tryin figure out who gave me the green egglet. I am guessin one of the rocks that i figured would be a while in layin just because of their large size.. i saw a dark brown feather in the box today.

I had 2 lay their first today! I'm beyond excited as these are my first chickens. I knew my amberlink was close, but i thought my white leghorn was also close. But I think the isa brown was the second because both eggs were brown. Unless Amber laid late last night and again today?? The leghorn should have white eggs.

I'm at 2/7. The other 4 were very END of April chicks, so probably have a few weeks yet.
Amber amberlink8-27
Lisa isa brown 8-27
Whitney-white leghorn soon

I am still getting 1-2 white eggs every day, all 3 of my brown egg layers are squatting so hopefully they start soon, no signs yet from the Americauna and EE.... I am going to be gone a week in September I am sure that will be the week they all lay!
