April 2017 chicks, who will lay first contest...

Pics
1/6...just the trusty little Sebright. The leghorn that laid her first egg 3 days ago hasn't yet laid a second. But she and the others are trying out nests, and 2 of them actually squatted for me. I'm not 100% sure I can tell them apart, and the eggs will probably look alike as well. So I'll only know all 4 are laying when I get 4 white eggs.....

Today only six eggs and yesterday too. The lil almost yellow one wasn't in there. But it was a first for someone two days ago so she still tryin figure it out i spose. :). Any ideas on what bird gives yellow tinted eggs? I haven't been able to find any yet... or maybe someone's crayon box isn't workin right just yet since she is a new layer?

AND! Cletis... the sad tom we got six weeks ago... i think he is doin the DEED!:celebrate:eek::wee I am pretty positive i am seein bullseyes in the ladies eggs. We didn't figure on him doin it because he is still so skittish and because of his wry neck. Plus we have never seen him super close to the ladies... he is always near but not touchin them. So in spring when the ladies start layin again we gonna borrow an incubator and see if it is for real and for trues. :). Unless one of the ladies go broody... but we have read and heard tell that turkeys are hit or miss on broodin good. So we will see what happens.

We got 4 eggs today. 2 from leghorns and 2 from RIRs. That would indicate that our other RIR still hasn't started. We're also impatiently waiting for eggs from 2 EEs, 1 barred rock, and one buff brahma. I'm guessing our brahma is a long way from laying, but the EEs look like they're getting ready. Oh well, 4 of 9 isn't too bad. At least we have eggs in the skelter for breakfast tomorrow!

My Pointer Sisters were hatched 4/7 and thanks to this thread I have high hopes of seeing an egg soon. Australorp, Barred Rock and Americana. Free rangers for 6-8 hrs per day so hoping I don't have to go on an egg hunt.

I have my flock of 7 (6 hens / 1 rooster) were hatched 4/26 I have 1 australorp and 2 white rocks in my flock and my australorp is looking like she is close to laying and 1 of my rocks looks to be right behind her so hopefully yours are close too

well right now the only one laying is still the my red sex link didn't get one yesterday but she laid one early this morning so the count is still 1/6

We got another newbie today! So 8 out of 15. :celebrate:wee. And sir bratstard cockrel.... met his demise today. He got hubby yesterday and me. It just so happened we picked up two young hogs to butcher today... and welp... the pot was steamy.... and... even with all the shennanigans right by the run and coop it was so stinkin quiet in there this afternoon. The mornin was loud and proud everybody singin. Lol! Mebbe they all got tired or mebbe the cockrel doesn't have any competition for his songs anymore. I may have threatened him today too also though.. He stalked me while i walked round the fence and stomped at me once. :he Told him i did! Told him the pot was still steamy and i still had a spare roo growin and that he seems quite the gentleman. lol!

There has been quite a kerfuffle amongst Chez Poulet's 4 leghorn pullets today. Or should I say 'kerfluffle?' Cowgirl was checking out the Royal Suite, Blondie appeared to be intent upon waiting in line for the milk crate, calmly occupied by Moonshine the Sebright, who just aaa111.jpg laid a 5th egg in 5 days in a row.(16 in 22 days) But after Moonshine exited, Blondie did not go in to nest, but joined Charlotte and Monica on the roost, squawking and ba-gawking...Our 3 older hens seem to be going into molt, which means they stop laying, so the pullets really need to step up. Maybe today!

well, 1/6 today again. Zilch, nada, nothing from the leghorn sisters after all their morning ruckus. One of them did go check out the milk crate after the Sebright left her warm little egg....she settled down upon it, but didn't lay and left after a few minutes. I hope when the time comes that she chooses another nest site. What is so attractive about this plastic milk crate? I really don't understand chicken feng shui......
