April 2017 chicks, who will lay first contest...

Pics
From 1/3 to 2/3, woohoo! But my new layer's egg is speckled. Is that ok? Like she's not deficient in anything is she? She has the same access to all the same things. And no bullying or anything to prevent her. The shell feels firm. Can't think of anything else. Is this common? And if it's normal, will this happen often or all the time? The baby still shows no signs of being ready to lay.

Oh wow I love it.. What else do you have for them to play with and keep them busy?
I hung a birdhouse gourd & fill it with fermented feed or cantaloupe seeds or other treats. It's hilarious seeing them follow it swinging back & forth. Also put greens in a suet cage.

I wanna put in a swing -- just lazy & haven't gotten to it.
Also got 2 playhouses from Craigslist to convert to coops & create a little chicken McMansion village. Again lazy but here's the inspiration photo

I had an SL Wyandotte that laid speckled eggs like that. All the time.

Wow I love the play house idea to. That's really cute. I have the large suet cages I hang on the pen and put greens in for them. We also have a homemade swing my son made them but they don't use it. We are not sure why. We have two wooden crates in there standing on their ends and board across them. So they have something else to jump up on. Large concrete blocks you use to decorate in there also in different heights. I have a few colored plastic balls they seem to like and they get moved all over the place.

How pretty! I've never seen speckles like that. Keep us posted as she lays more
