April 2017 chicks, who will lay first contest...

Pics
After my euphoria of getting 5 eggs, I only got 3 yesterday. My little white leghorn is laying every day and the ISA Brown is also now laying every day. One of the Buff Orpingtons is laying sometimes. They will be 23 weeks old tomorrow. When do they all start laying on a consistent basis? The 2 Barred Rocks and the Silver Wyondette aren't squatting when I pet them but the others are. This is my first flock, so I'm confused

Each hen will lay when they are ready. I know that's a crazy answer but their bodies have to be ready. Each hen lays at different times usually 25 hours apart you can expect to see a egg if the breed lays every day. It can take then any where from a few weeks to a month for their eggs to get bigger and for them to lay regularly for you. As I said before it all in good time when they are ready. As the chickens get older over 3 they begin to slow down there laying process till they are out of eggs. AS chickens can only lay so many in there life time. Best of luck with your flock.

Sunday 2 eggs. They were not giving me anything because I wanted a omelet yesterday. Crazy chickens. lol I woke up hoping to see lots of eggs today since its Monday and they decided not to give me any. So lets see what I get by tonight. Its only in the 60s here today so they may be thinking twice about laying.

I love this answer!

I got these girls because I don't want to support battery hens.

I guess in my own way, I was so caught up in getting eggs, I kept wishing my girls would mature faster. Now that they're growing up, I look back on their little chick pix & sigh... "they grow up so quickly."

Yes I am now the official crazy chicken lady!!!

And another perfect 30gm egg from Pele the RIR yesterday.

On a side note, my girls are earning their keep in a different way. Starting a chick band!!! :celebrate

It looks like all 4 of our leghorns may want to lay today....there's a big commotion going on. But there's also a traffic jam in the nests. The broody Sebright pullet takes up the milk crate at all times, so that's out. One of the leghorns went to lay an egg in the Royal Suite, and one of the hens took up the wicker basket, she can take hours. Now the other hen decided to lay and as soon as the Royal Suite was empty, and she went in there. The three remaining leghorns are frantic. There are two other nests, never used...I call them Baltic Ave and St. James place, a monopoly theme..... Baltic Ave has no amenities, not even a fake egg, it's the low rent district, lol.. But the leghorns were seriously checking both out. I hope they will use these other nests. I don't want anyone trying to force the broody out of her crate. So far, she shrieks at them and they leave her alone.
