April 2017 chicks, who will lay first contest...

I am really confused and concerned. I have 6 BO that on the 5th of October were 6 months old. I am getting 1 egg daily. I am pretty sure which hen is laying but what is up with the other 5? They seem healthy and all but not sure. This is my first flock and getting really anxious to get eggs from them. Could it be their feed? I am giving them 18% layer, Non-GMO Organic....

Where do you live? My last year's chickens were hatched in May and so came of age when the days were getting too short, and thus didn't lay until the following spring. You may have to wait.....:th

past 4 days my eggs dropped in number including the 9 pullets that were laying. I got 1 pullet egg today, 2 eggs yesterday, one from 1 1/2 yr barred hen, and 1 from one of the pullets, don't know which one, but it was a double yolker. thought it looked a bit large for a pullet, found out why today. No eggs 2 days ago and only 2 eggs the day before that. So now I am also going into egg withdrawal. :hit:lau so I have never gotten 11/11,in one day ( from the Pullets). I did get 6/11 in a day. looks like I lost this game. Congrats to all you winners out there. :clap

Oh man... I sure hope not... But, I do live in NW Indiana. I also got 15 BO's in July and assumed they would not start laying until at least December or so. But it I have to wait until spring that is what I will do . But sure is getting expensive feeding them with no return.....

I have tried turning on the coop light before dawn, but they all just go outside in the dark. I guess I could keep them locked in, but that would cause a lot of protesting....our days are down to 11.5 hours, and the leghorns are laying well so far.

I know our days get really short, and maybe someday I'll add light, but for now I like the idea of working with the rest period. Even if it means waiting for spring for some of my ladies. And not all breeds are effected anyway. I had leghorns last winter that pretty much laid every day.

Our Lulu (profile pic) is an easter egger and has puffy feathered cheeks. She's full grown now. I noticed today that one of her cheeks is missing its feathers. I have not seen any of the other chickens pick on her or any squabbles. Do you think the others could have pulled them out or could it be something else?
