What I know is a drop in the bucket compared to others! When I initially started keeping chickens I just want enough to feed my family eggs for breakfast without having to go to the store. That has since evolved . I learn best by doing, so I will be starting with what I know and learning the rest as I go! Lavender, BBS, and olive egger genetics are some of the easier ones to get a handle on IMO.

ETA: I'm currently a SAHM and it's been a really hard adjustment for me. I'm the type of person that always needs to be doing SOMEthing. And that's how our homestead was born lol. I hope my kid is a chicken lover like your kids!

I hear ya! Me too! I have an online business selling furniture which keeps me busy part time. But we put our “chicken coop boots” on daily!

Day 5, I can clearly see into the CCL eggs...9 infertile CCLs and 3 developing. On an exciting note, I'm going to wait a few more days on the Marans but I think I see development in 11 out of 12 eggs! Same flock that gave me 6 out of 12 just 2 weeks earlier so maybe the CCLs are just a tad behind as well and next time I'll have better results.

Akoharski4, without careful selective breeding in olive eggers, you may not get birds that lay olive eggs after the first generation (F1). You can also manipulate the shade of green your olive eggers lay by breeding F1 birds back to brown or blue layers. So, you'll see a lot of people talking about "F1 OE."

I actually don’t have any Lavender birds right now. So what are the odds mine are splits and not just black if they had a Lavender dad and a mom that was unknown color - maybe black as the hens are half BCM? That first chart seems to be for BBS so I am not totally sure how that one applies.

Lavender is a recessive self blue which is why it's on the blue chart. Lavender and Black would give you black split to lav for 100% of the babies produced for that pairing. So this would mean that if you have 2 splits and are breeding them together you can get 25% chance of getting lavender from the pairing.

What color are your CCL eggs? I have a CCL cross that lays the prettiest mint speckled eggs! Love seeing the colors ☺

They're a soft blue. It was actually hard to capture the color with the camera, they look white, lol...of couse, I took this picture before I took out all of the infertile eggs. Fingers crossed for the 3 developing!
