April 2020 Hatch-A-Long! All are welcome!

Well guys. This was going to be my last hatch for the year. One of the last duck eggs is zipping. External pip on the other. Today’s day 20 of the 2 shipped eggs. Nothing yet. Buuuut. I’ve been having such a hard time finding quality welsh harlequins that I bought some eggs from a breeder to ship in hahaha. She’s sending them Monday so I’ll have an early June hatch!

Ooo, welsh harlequins are such beautiful and sweet ducks! I had a hard time finding new bloodlines but did get some from a place in Michigan that will hopefully hatch next week. I'd love to know if you have another quality source as I would love to purchase from them as well. Good luck with your duck hatch!

I've bought a lot of eggs off eBay too. It's a mixed bag but I've learned something each time.

Thanks to the February hatch a long I discovered the Facebook hatching eggs groups. My last shipped eggs were from there.
I wrote a reply and it never made it. Maybe it's me to be having an off week. 🤷‍♀️ The gist of it was that I learned and was reminded by this to ask more questions before buying.

And... the good news is these little cuties in the brooder. First time ever to have all girls (I think).

Years ago when we first bought our land and started homesteading I made a terrible purchase on a papered Lamancha goat. It stings to this day but I learned to ask more questions, never make assumptions, and trust my instinct. She was a $350 +/- mistake but has saved me thousands as we've gone on to purchase larger more expensive animals (specifically horses and papered pigs) and farm equipment.

I still believe that most people mean well and are basically good. However giving people the benefit of the doubt does not mean you allow yourself to be an easy mark or hoodwinked. If they won't answer your questions or provide pictures there's a reason.

Ok, I'm off my soapbox now. :old

Sounds like a very valuable experience. Those are usually worth more than the financial loss as it sounds like was the case with your goat.

I absolutely adore them. It’s so difficult to find quality birds. Especially on the East coast where I am. Last year I got from Quacky Acres. I’m not sure if she’s shipping eggs this year but they’re gorgeous birds. Shipping is a whole scary venture so unfortunately I can’t help by sending some lol.

I grew up in New England... The east coast is rough to get eggs. I have found a lot local though on Craigslist. I do not like shipped eggs. I got quail from am eBay seller and only 4 hatched out of 22 🙄 most were clears!
