They are vaulted. Common in silkies and you can have both vaulted and non vaulted in a hatch from the same parents. Believed to stem back from when Polish were introduced to improve the crest size.Yea, I’ve done a bit of research and read many many documents, walkthroughs or listened/watched YouTube’s on it. I know it seems like a real crap shoot. I’m sure there is somethings I can do better. This is only my second hatch after all. And while they aren’t my own eggs they are local and I’ll say significantly better chances than shipped so to speak.
Would you by chance know about these bumps on the heads of these silkies? One with and one without.
So, my first set of silkie eggs from my own birds were infertile! My white silkie just started laying again. She is one of my cockerels favorites (the other two plain just do not like him).
Just set 8 more, we will see what happens. If they develop, will still be April hatches.
My one remaining shipped paint silkie egg is looking good at day 16. Due to hatch Saturday.
I have one of the last set of shipped eggs at day 7 doing something, though does not look like a DAY 7 egg. Pretty sure it will end up being a blood ring, but hanging on to it for a little bit longer. The remaining 12 were all tossed, did not even develop, air cells were quite scrambled.
I must say, this has not been a great hatch season for me so far. The December hatches were so much better!
I am learning though that I have very little control when it comes to this and learning to let things go.![]()
I really can't see what you are talking about. Have you tried washing it off? It could just be some egg white that was left over in the egg. If it is not sick or weak I would just put it with the others.Any thoughts? This is the chick who I feel barely made it. Has a goopy spot above the vent near the tail. Still covered in some sticky stuff. Quiet but feisty with others and noisy alone, of course.
currently separated, but I’ve had one or two comfort chicks in here that have been put back into the brooder with the rest. And I’m now realizing I may be introducing something to everyone else.....![]()
