April 2021 Hatch - A - Long

Pics
Yea, I’ve done a bit of research and read many many documents, walkthroughs or listened/watched YouTube’s on it. I know it seems like a real crap shoot. I’m sure there is somethings I can do better. This is only my second hatch after all. And while they aren’t my own eggs they are local and I’ll say significantly better chances than shipped so to speak.

Would you by chance know about these bumps on the heads of these silkies? One with and one without.
They are vaulted. Common in silkies and you can have both vaulted and non vaulted in a hatch from the same parents. Believed to stem back from when Polish were introduced to improve the crest size.
The vaulted skulls make them more vunerable to head injuries and their skull has openings at the top, much like the "soft spot" in a human baby. Many silkie breeders are trying to breed away from vaulted skulls due to this. 😊

So, my first set of silkie eggs from my own birds were infertile! My white silkie just started laying again. She is one of my cockerels favorites (the other two plain just do not like him).🤣
Just set 8 more, we will see what happens. If they develop, will still be April hatches.
My one remaining shipped paint silkie egg is looking good at day 16. Due to hatch Saturday.
I have one of the last set of shipped eggs at day 7 doing something, though does not look like a DAY 7 egg. Pretty sure it will end up being a blood ring, but hanging on to it for a little bit longer. The remaining 12 were all tossed, did not even develop, air cells were quite scrambled.

I must say, this has not been a great hatch season for me so far. The December hatches were so much better!
I am learning though that I have very little control when it comes to this and learning to let things go.🥰

I will keep my fingers crossed for paint silkie egg!
I lost 2 of my shipped silkie eggs :( I think I am down to 15 or 16 out of 24. Few infertile, few blood rings and now a few dead later in development (one was a very narrow egg, so kinda saw that coming).
My PEKINS! They all look to be developing...one egg is quite dirty but such is duck life hehe. So exciting.

My store eggs (7) are on day 16, which is a good day to candle the pointy tip because the tip should be dark by day 16. 4 looked great, 3 looked more clear on the tip, (mostly 2). The clear tip-ed eggs may still hatch just later than 21 days.

The eggs I got last week from a friend ended up not being fertile.

I snail-mailed money to a lady across the country, last week Mon. She has not gotten it yet. I was wanting NN/frizzle eggs from her. I am not going to bother her though. She said she would let me know when it comes. Sigh.

All I can do is play with chicks I have, and wait till next weekend for some more babies.

Any thoughts? This is the chick who I feel barely made it. Has a goopy spot above the vent near the tail. Still covered in some sticky stuff. Quiet but feisty with others and noisy alone, of course.

currently separated, but I’ve had one or two comfort chicks in here that have been put back into the brooder with the rest. And I’m now realizing I may be introducing something to everyone else..... 😑

I really can't see what you are talking about. Have you tried washing it off? It could just be some egg white that was left over in the egg. If it is not sick or weak I would just put it with the others.

day 25 and my duckys are breaking out heheh .. wasnt expecting it to be this early so i dont have the brooder box set up yet .. guess i know what im doing on my day off today .... actually had the turner still going, was going to shut it down tonight, and was messing around over near the bator this morning and thought i heard a peep .. sure enough lol ..
