APRIL 26TH, TSC MILFORD NH CHICKEN SWAP:

Anyone bringing barred plymouth rock chicks? Would love to have 2 about 1 week old. Those were the only ones on my list I didn't get in Milford.

I'll be bringing 2 black ringneck pheasant males.I also have a pair of swinhoe for sale, but would rather have them picked up here at the house. It is close to time for them to lay so I don't want to disturb them unless I have to.

Tony ,
the Reeves I got from You back when we first started are getting ready to lay also, poor hen is nearly bald lol.

question for you , do I let her hatch or do I pull and incubate?
thanks in advance.

It depends on how many chicks you want.If you want a bunch, pull her eggs and incubate them. What I do is let them lay 2 clutches and let them set on the 3rd clutch.
It;s best to have 4 or 5 hens with a reeves male, they can be very aggressive during breeding.

yes he already killed on e of the hens the jerk. I have them seperated right now and only allow them 10 minutes or so , depends wwhen he starts acting jerkish.
boy let me tell you, I prefer my red goldens over the temperment of the Reeves.
that Cock nearly took the hubbys ear off 2 weeks ago.
had he done that to me he would have ended up with apple and onion stuffing.

If you decide to get rid of them let me know. The parents to yours are about 20 years old and both have gone blind this past year. We've tried to put 4 more hens in the colony last year and 1 by 1 the older pair killed them all.We like to run 1 male to 5 hens for breeding stock, but unable to find enough hens on all breeds for this season. We do have hens with all the males but not the 5 we'd like to have.
