APRIL FOOLS HATCH, give or take a day.....who's in ??

Well candled tonight... I tossed 12 eggs, and out of the 30 left I would say at least half are developing for sure, the other half I can't see in well enough to know if they are growing or not, so I will give them another week then see what's going on. I'm really sad though, I'm not very confident in the shipped eggs that I have, that I was really excited about. Most of the action is happening in the RIR eggs I picked up locally for the heck of it. I hope I have better news in a week when I candle again. This is just a bad year for shipped eggs for me, I don't think my growth rates have ever been this bad.

tossing them, that would be tough. I've taken the advice of some others. I'm going to hold out on candling now until day 18. Being a newbie at the incubator, i don't want to toss anything that might be alive, so, I'm going to put faith in roo fertility and the incubator and hope for the best.

Okay, so it is day two for me, eight more to candling day. I'm sure I could tell something is going on by day 5-6 when comparing them to fresh eggs, just not sure enough to toss any, but by day ten there should not be any doubt.

I can't seem to see into my darker green eggs

what can i do now:confused:

what would happen if i added more eggs to this batch
i know that i should date them
or maybe should i just leave them in the nest until these hatch and then grab them

What kind of candler are you using? Just asking, I checked out my test eggs, these were some I placed in the bator a week ago for a test run to see what would happen, I took them out and cracked them to see what, if anything was going on, I also candled them and they looked really dark, could not see clear through them. The room was not totally dark so seeing through them would be difficult if even possible. Anyway, since they were pullet eggs, and i have a pig, I used them to teach myself something about the development of eggs. The pig loved them, guess she would have loved them anyway.

Anyway, when I candled, I held up a fresh egg for comparison, the fresh egg I used appeared clear while the test eggs did appear to have something different going on in them. That was on day 5, I think, yes day five. I'm at day two now with the eggs I plan to incubate, so I won't disturb my bator, other than to add water until day ten.

I only tossed the ones I knew weren't growing, if I wasn't sure they stayed in. Some had broken air cells and some had blood rings starting, so they could never grow

Plus I've candled hudredss of times, so I know what I'm looking for now. Plus I really don't want any exploding eggs

, So I get them out if I know nothing is going on inside.

It's really early for me (day 4) but I had to pull the eggs out of the bator to turn them big side up so I went ahead and candled...

I checked the light eggs first and see veining in two for sure and I think I saw some in the third as well... WOO HOO!!! That means my rooster is doing his job and gets lots of treats tonight

I went ahead and candled the Marans eggs but can't see anything yet. I didn't really expect to this early and they're kinda hard to candle even when things really get growing so that's no big deal. The only concern on those is that they might be a little porous... I really should have candled them before I set to see how they looked but oh well. I'll leave them and see how things go.

I am using a spot light to candle my eggs
but i still cant see into those green eggs

anyone else know what i can use to look with
cause i dont know whether or not my green ones are fertile

next saturday the 26th is suppose to be lock down for me!!!!

I candled today and I have over 40 eggs with development!!!! Ack!

Several of my mutt pullet eggs that I threw in for kicks are developing, as are a few of the 'test' australorp eggs that we weren't sure were even fertile. A few of the shipped turken eggs look to be duds (darn!) but I see development in the rest! Also SS and brahmas doing well.

We have 28 mutt eggs that should hatch around April 4. *crosses fingers for a good hatch*

Eggs are from: Silkie X Ameraucana; Red Orp X Barred Rock; Red Orp X Leghorn; Red Orp X Australorp; Easter Egger. I'm really hoping for some silkie feathered chicks.
