APRIL Hatch a long ......Anyone?

4 have hatched now. They're exhausted and pass out like puppies. So I'm hoping not to open til I have to but one kicked it's entire shell onto a pipped egg. The bottom (RIR shell) is completely covering the BCM (darker) egg and then the top landed on that egg covering the pip. Hope it shakes it off or I'll have to intervene?

INTERVENE!! The chick may very well smother...this is just one of those things you have to do quickly and hope for the best...

OK that one got out. But its chaos in there! Chicks and shells are everywhere and the windows are condensated. I don't want to take them out they're soaking wet but I'm wondering if I can get some shells out? And maybe let out some moisture. The shells all broke neatly in half so its hard to see especially through the fog what is hatching. I'm really concerned one might get a half a shell on it and smother. I think I have maybe 20 chicks but I can't even tell. I can't see how someone could contain them in cartons. Mine are everywhere, jumping on eggs. And they're so loud, woke up me and my baby. But so worth it, but I might want to move baby to his own room next time. So success all in all! Piles of chicks!

Hi! I have an April hatch going, now on day 20, with some rockers but no cheeping yet. This is only my second hatch, and my first was a success, every egg that was fertile was able to hatch on its own, and only had one chick with a disability that I needed to cull. I set 24 eggs this time: 8 have been infertile or quit it the early stages. Here are the babies I'm expecting: 5 Easter eggers (cop mar and buff Americana mixes), 3 Isbars, 1 silver-laced wyandotte, 1 Copper Mar, 1 wheaten mar, 3 English lav Orps, and one eng lav Orp in a blue egg?

A few questions that I have for you all:

1) I will need to tag the chicks somehow when I move them from the incubator. What are some good ways? Is there anything that I shouldn't use? I have some small rubber bands used for braces, and I'll only need the tags for the first 3 days.

2) Can the humidity be too high at hatch time? If you can still see through the window, do you need to worry about it?

Just me but if its foggy whats the humidity? it might be too high for others not pipped. If 60 or over id grab out some shells anyway or chicks if your brooder set up and some are fluffy dry. After check humidity if it gets under 60 spray some water in to raise it again.NICE HATCH!!.

Thanks! Ya the humidity is 80%! There's only a few left unhatched at this point, but there's piles of shell halves so its so hard to see. My brooder is in the garage and dipped to 94° plus the chicks are wet. I want to just grab the shells but the chicks swarmed me and I grabbed only one. I had 34 and the incubator holds 42. That's crazy, there's no way I could fit that many. I have the lid propped a tiny bit just to give them air and let out some moisture maybe.

This is my first try at incubation, I set on April 6 and today is day 21, the incubator is a Sanven Janoel 48 Eggs Digital Automatic Turner that I got off of Amazon. I set 48 eggs and had 8 infertile and 4 early quitters leaving 36, well so far 24 have hatched and in brooder and more pipping.

They are Dark Cornish and White Rock cross and Dark Cornish and Amberlink cross.

Great news Jerry & Joplus! :D Hope more pip & hatch for you Roxanne! :D

This is so exciting! Here's 8 in my brooder so far...4 still in 'bator drying out. Most of the others have pipped. Have only one Bielefelder so far, the rest are taking their sweet time. Is ok, only day 20 today. :) Bielefelder on top along with some olive eggers & malines.
