APRIL Hatch a long ......Anyone?

incubator question and I'm nervous.

I have a homemade incubator and am using the STC-1000 thermostat to control a 25 watt light bulb as heat source. I accidentally left the internal temperature probe under an egg after the rotation this morning about 8:30. When I got home about 5pm I checked on the eggs and the internal thermometer was reading 106 degrees.

I immediately opened the lid to cool it down and rotated the eggs as normal. Be it that this is day 7 what is the likelihood that they will not survive? What are the chances they will survive?

Thank you for your input.
I had a temp spike around day 12 to 105...left hubby in charge of the bator...yeesh. I did lose 1 of 10 around that time. Fingers crossed for your next candling!

11 pm of hatch day and i see one star crack. .finally
if the stink doesnt kill him i might have one or who knows ..maybe they are just late.Rather have the silkys than the EEs though and its an EE trying to pip

STer ....a little cutie..might get his friends going peeping away...

Hatch day is so exausting..not just for the chicks.

That's for sure! I'm wiped out! I don't know how you can do hatch after hatch, successful or not! Although I can see how this might be addictive. lol Hopefully you'll have more cracks by morning. I'm hoping for one or two more to keep the ee/bo company, preferably one of the ee's, but I'll take anything!

I have a chick! The one that had pipped the most this morning was zipping when I checked on it this evening while at the church/school for something else. My aunt, a friend, and I were able to watch it zip and then emerge from the shell. It was really neat! The little thing came out squawking like crazy, rested a moment, and then proceeded to go around yelling at all the other eggs. :) I could see some of them rocking at its voice. I have pictures but my internet connection is acting up so I'll have to post those later.

Mine did the same thing, FarmerJayne. Except non of the other eggs rocked in response - they were just getting knocked around. Can't wait to see your pics. : )

After a while you get used to it. In the beginning it's like "OMG! Did I do it right? Oh no! What about x factor? What about y...?! WHAT ABOUT A????!" lolololol :))) We all go through it. My best suggestion to avoid hatching jitters is simple... Watch a real chicken brood their eggs. OMG. If they can survive THAT, they can survive you :) One of our yard hens decided she was going to make a nest under my Bobcat, in between the chassis and where the bucket rests on the ground at the beginning of this past month. She wouldn't move for anything. Through freezing nights and torrential rains, the occasional hydraulic drip of fluid to the noisy roar of that machine... she wouldn't move. And last week out popped a half dozen little chicks. Now if she can get a 50% hatch rate through that mess without freaking out... we humans should be able to do it in little cabinet or styro incubators without an issue :D

I'm supposed to be setting my next batch of ostrich eggs to hatch on Friday. I just checked my machine as I'm getting ready to start my day. Guess what's up on the rails? Two pipped eggs... 3 days early. Go figure. These guys are in such a hurry that they didn't even wait to stop turning!

Quote: I used a broody with shipped eggs last year...she sat like a rock! No such luck this year! One thing I don't understand is not moving them while they are getting into hatching position - my little broody was turning those eggs right up to the end! Not that putting them in hatching position made a difference, I just found an egg with a pip in the wrong end! Argh.

Well I blew it ...Think ikilled all my hatching chicks.
today day 21.. Everything has been perfect ..BUT....  a week or so ago the bator started to stink...I smelled each egg.No didn't find a stinker ...EASY  to know when you do ..almost makes your eyes water...GUCK...but nothing.... so for the next week every day or so i would smell them ....nope didnt fine one...then took the later ones and put them in another bator and these  in lockdown  still this same bator...Then today i thought the bottom of one of the wells looks black like after chicks hatch...I have a feeling THAT is what stinks and i think it poisoned  the chicks.
Don't know how it happened as i bleach the whole thing before setting any but the room is a hallway ands lots of dust from my 170 lb  dog so ??? Maybe that?...NO IDEA
I  snuck pennies in to help the bacteria but didn't think on hatch day I would take them out clean it now ...too late.....as they are all probably dead anyway i did see a wiggle egg last night ....I thought  anyway.....no other movement no pips and end  of day 21.

SAd though as they had grown well up until this .

Then my other bator has been great...not a genesis but doing fine.stead y temp. today the temp goes t o106.!!!ugh.,..I caught it within an hour of that spike  maybe less.Thought  theyd be fine.
Went  out to eat dinner  tonite come back 106 again for how long ?no idea.

So who knows about these eggs too.
After this ruined  hatch  is over another day or so to be sure ...the others  will all go back in the genesis once its cleaned out and  really bleached well.NO spike in it  to worry about

.Always some new happening with hatching something you have never had.. .:hit

I just found this thread (I have a hatch due tomorrow) don't give up on day 21!!! I saw in your later post that you have a pip :) my last two hatches hatched 3 & 2 days late!!! Although they were my first hatches and the entire process was wonky and exhausting.... Good luck with your chicks!!!!

My goslings were four or five days late. Sometimes things happen that make them need a bit more time. I hope everything works out for you :)
