APRIL Hatch a long ......Anyone?

My bantam cochin eggs arrived at the PO yesterday, the postal worker didn't even come to my door with the package, just left a note slip in my mailbox! How lazy!
Every single egg was scrambled! Most expensive eggs I've bought and not one will grow anything.

Guess I better start looking for some LF cochin eggs!
I got some bantam cochin eggs from Texas and the seller packaged and labeled my box so well, I was so pleased every egg was perfect. If your interested in the members info send me a pm.

I just went and checked on everyone, I have 14 in the brooder, I lost count, it changed so many times today. And looks like 3 in icu are rallying.

Well here they are! Hope you like and I didn't share too many.

So stinking cute!

Now that the five dozen barnyard mixes are out, I just checked on some of the others that will be hatching in a few weeks. Looks like one batch of the game birds in a complete failure. Not a single fertile egg. I am hatching for someone else and I think they got these eggs shipped in. I've never had a complete loss before. Thankfully he isn't angry.

This coming week I will have 2.5 dozen spangled dominiques hatching, as well as a half dozen cayuga ducks.

Oh wow! I only have a 41 hole turner in a styrofoam Hovabator. And I have it split up to set each week. I've NEVER had more than 15 chicks hatch at once. I think I would have a nervous breakdown at 5 dozen!!!!! Although, I would sooooo love to try!! Can't wait to build a bigggggg bator!

I kinda started big. My friend had an old redwood cabinet incubator sitting in her barn that she didn't want anymore. I had to clean it up a lot before I ran a test batch, but the thing runs great. Maximum capacity is 18 dozen. Nothing like those big commercial incubators, but a lot more than the little table-top ones.

Now that I've hatched the ameraucana bantams I wanted for myself, I am charging a small fee to hatch eggs for other people. At first I didn't think I would have any takers but in just a few weeks I have had to start turning people away. I have four dozen game birds, two and a half dozen dominiques, two dozen cayuga ducks, almost one dozen black east indie ducks, all brought by 4 different people. And all of them are wanting to bring more! :O So far, my hatch rates have been good, but the guy who keeps bringing the game birds keeps bringing me eggs that have been shipped and sitting for 2 weeks! His first batch of 6 only had one fertile egg and the third batch of 12 seems to be completely hopeless. The second batch of 12 has 6 fertile and the fourth and fifth batches haven't been in long enough for me to tell yet.

For those wondering, I ended up getting a styrofoam incubator to use as a hatcher so that I didn't have to stagger lockdowns in the redwood. It's a Farm Innovators brand. It came with a turner and a fan for only $50. It looks just like the LG one.
