APRIL Hatch a long ......Anyone?

I had all 7 eggs hatch by this morning. It's been a super busy day, but all seem to be doing well, even the one that I helped out of the egg the most. I wasn't sure how she would do, but she's doing ok. None of them are really eating yet, but that's to be expected. 4 girls and 3 boys!

All 7 , thats great!! How did you manage to sex them so early? :)

Broody left her 2 eggs yesterday so brought them in and just checked, one pipped already. Also put 8 more in lockdown earlier today. When I candled 2 were already internal pipped and it's only day 18, I've had them hatch on day 19 last year when I keep them in the Brinsea during the whole incubation but I'm hatching so many staggered I have to move to another. I candled the double yoker and both chicks are still alive, would be neat if they both hatched and lived. Kinda excited for that to happen.

Yes, I'm thrilled. We usually get boys, which is funny because we have an all daughters and no sons. ;)

The chicks are bielefelders, which are auto sexing. I'm thrilled! The first that hatched is a cockerel that we are calling Big Boy aka Dinner. LOL

Auto sexing is super handy! The males are double barred and the females are single barred. It means that the male chicks will have a dot on their heads and the females will have chipmunk stripes on their backs. Unlike a sexlink chicken, they you will be able to tell the difference between the males and the females from generation to generation.

Crested cream legbar, rhodebars and bielefelders are all examples of auto sexing breeds of chickens.
