APRIL Hatch a long ......Anyone?

Day 18, lockdown. Hard to candle the dark Marans eggs, but I tried 2 of the 9 aren't very dark, the other 7 are very dark in contrast with the air pocket. After carefully candling and setting on their sides, I could hear faint peeping. Is that normal for day 18?
I've had issues with calibrating my temps, I fear I may be a degree or two high, and I understand sometimes that can accelerate hatching by a day or two...

Just got home and two of the Dominique chicks have hatched and one is already dry! Do I take the dry one out and put it in the brooder or wait?

I didn't realise this was going to be stressful and I'm only ten days in. I suppose the temp fluxes hasn't helped but I seem to be running 3 days late during candling. Some looked like they were early quitters and I lost hope to be honest but the last one I checked was moving a lot in the shell, must of been a heartbeat.

Ill be keeping them going and I'm going to take up my knitting again to keep away candling cravings. I'm either going to pick up a newer incubator and incubate with that or buy day old chicks next time.

I'm on day 11. I think mine look farther along than they should. It might be the temp getting too high in the afternoon (still air and hits 101.5). Good luck everyone!

102 is typically recommended for still air, so 101.5 is just right.

What do you try to keep it on if 101.5 is the high?

I have been trying to stay exactly on 100.5 but it drops to 99.5 in the early morning sometimes or 101.5 at the hottest. It seems like it is actually rarely on 100.5 though. Oh well there's little chicks inside amazingly.

Hey so I've got another newbie question. Will the eggs hatch vertically or do they have to be horizontal?
