This is my first time incubating ducks and I'm on day 20 now. I've noticed a foul smell coming from my eggs is this normal? I've been candling and I've got baby ducks in there, I'm just worried that maybe a few are going bad???

I think you may have failed egg in there. I'd recommend trying to isolate which one(s) smell, and then candle to confirm that the egg has failed. You don't want a rotten egg to break or blow up and contaminate your incubator. Good luck! Let us know what you find.

You guys were right. I had three quitters and they smelled awful. I guess I was just hanging onto them with the hopes that they might make it. I feel terrible when I have to throw the bad ones away! I'm learning though. I should have two dozen to set after these hatch so maybe I'll have better luck. Got 15 going strong now. :D

I always imagine I see the quitters moving. So I keep them just in case. I had a duckling die in the shell. So I took it our of the bator and had it sitting in a dirty egg carton ready to be disposed of. Hubby swore he saw it moving. Sometimes you want something so much that your brain won't let it go...

So, if an embryo (pretty veins & all) seems to be sliding around the egg, that's probably a bad sign, right?

This is my first attempt at incubating eggs. I see a lot of people talking about breaking open the bad eggs to see what went wrong. And then I see posts about BAD eggs that are rotting, which I don't really think I want to open! How do I know which eggs are okay to investigate?

And finally, on day 4 I had 4 eggs that were looking pretty good. Day 7, I have a couple of others that were NOT showing any signs of growth 3 days before. Will this gap even out, or should I expect the eggs that got a later start to hatch later, too? Should I make a point of rotating the eggs around the incubator (a still air one) so that the same eggs aren't sitting under the heat element or in a similar hot spot all the time?

Uhmm I'm not sure maybe moving them would help what kind of incubator do you have? Oh and a update on my eggs:) I have 15 eggs going strong on day 14. Oh and I managed to get 13 more from my friend. They are about a week along now. So it looks like ima have a staggered hatch! Can't wait so excited:D
