No I was trying to guess the colors... BUT they are little eggs theives as well. So say I put in 6 eggs under mama... we I get up in the morning to collect eggs and she's got 8 all of a sudden!!!

Little broody brats... I have to mark the ones I gave them so I can collect the unmarked ones in the morning for eating still.

Of my original set two of the eggs candled clear, and were immediately replaced with eggs taken away from my incompetent beginning broody turkey Mildred.

She's still not turning them well and I've begun to worry at her persistent attempts at broodiness not being good for her so all she's being left with now is chicken eggs which will hopefully hatch or die next week. If she tried to hatch this latest attempt at a batch she'd end up broody or mostly broody for 40 days. That's not happening, she needs to break up and go be a bird for awhile soon.

The UglyBator is stuffed to the gills but with any luck there will be chickens and turkeys soon. All the remaining rock eggs are showing veining. All the turkeys further on. 7 turkeys, and 20 chicken eggs, and two double yolks.

I candled my 12 Silkie eggs last night-2 of them were clear, 9 look pretty good, and 1 I'm not sure about. Of the 9, one white egg is "iffy"-my 2 year old was "candling" on Friday (while I was out of the room), and just as I came in and saw her, she dropped it! It bounced on the rug and didn't break, but I'll be suprised if it survives. They are due to hatch April 17, so we'll see.

Okay that is four hundred and fifty seventh post on children "helping" with hatching (the number is probably closer to a thousand in here) and I'm just deeply grateful that my DD is 25 and actively helpful when she shows up.

We're planning a pallet coop build when she comes up next.

If they're not helpfully candling EGGs for you, they're helping you adjust temperatures, opening the bator or knocking it off. I'm just so darned grateful to be old and retired right about now.

If Erin broke my BBS rock or my turkey eggs I might do something ugly and felonious.

I'm just going to read these posts about children helping and shake my head.

I've got a pip in a second egg!!! Whooohoooo ... this doesn't get any less exciting with every hatch. I'm getting addicted.

She's all hatched out now! Another black silkie.

2 more left to hatch. I thought I saw a pip in one this morning, but I think it was just a feather as I don't see it anymore

I've got 9 blue/blacks and 1 buff that are due to start hatching tonight. I've also got to QUICKLY add some more blue/black eggs as well as some lavender eggs that are on day 18 today!!

Let's all put on our moo moo dresses and african tribal head dresses and do the sacred dance of the hatching Gods...
