April Hatch Thread--Come Join Us!

Figured I would join in! I have eggs due starting the 12(16BLRW), more on the 14(11longtail mix), 15 (EE from my flock and some barnyard mixed from another flock), and Pekin duck eggs due from the 23-26(some from my flock and some from another flock). I have two more boxes of eggs coming if they ever arrive! Shipped Monday and here I am still waiting on them to appear...

9 of those longtail are under a broody hen and the rest of the eggs are broke up between a brinsea octagon 20 eco and a lg forced air with auto turner. I just received my new auto turner for my brinsea so yay! No more hand turning that incubator for me!

I thought the same thing after my first hatch since I was so stressed out by the time they finally hatched, but I keep going back to do more lol. I have a farm innovator and it was no more than $40 and I have had great hatches w it. My temps stay steady and I just have to add sponge or rag to raise the humidity.

I'll have to check out the farm innovator I guess. I don't wanna give up. Part of the stress is due to one of my egg orders still hasn't arrived, while the other 4 orders have already started. Not happy with that ebay seller. He didn't ship them til the day I was actually supposed to receive them.

I'd never heard of the lavender splash before. Shoulda seen the look on hubby's face at my squeal as I looked them up. I'm sure by now he thinks I'm certifiable.

Bless his heart, he just says, 'whatever makes you happy, dear'.

Is your farm innovator a still air?

Yea, that added stress can make it a lot more frustrating. My first hatch though was a staggered hatch in the same bator and went very very well. I have a staggered hatch going right now and ended up having to put a couple of my broody hens eggs in last night, cause she got off the nest after she hatched one. Had one hatch this morning, have the other rocking right now, 11quail that are due to hatch today (but NOTHING yet!!), 5 of my own eggs due to hatch the 1st and two other chicken eggs due to hatch in about 18 days...ahhh

What would you like know? Sounds like you know what you are doing so far.

I love when they hatch and watching them teach their babies. If you have a nice broody hen that will let you near the eggs, you can candle and to me see things faster and much better than when they are incubated. Enjoy! Double the fun :-D
I am not exactly sure really! I get so nervous and anxious when I do new things and don't really know exactly what I am doing. I have done a little research on here and that has helped some, but I know that people who are experienced may have other ideas or methods that has worked for them. I so hope they hatch and I can watch her being a mother, That would be so much better than in the incubator. She will peck me if I mess with her, I had my husband move her inside after he got home, LOL! My excuse was that his hands are tougher skinned than mine, so I don't think I will be able to candle them, maybe I will get lucky and at least see if some are developing. I am so eggcited!!!!!!!

Yes. The only thing that I ended up having to get for it was a better thermometer, cuz the one they send was whacky and not reading right.
I think my thermometer is also whacky! The cheap thermometer I picked up at meyer hatchery isn't anywhere close to the LG thermometer/hygrometer readings. I think I may wake up each morning to poached eggs.

My first broody hen last year was just evil when I got near the nest, but I learned I could put a plastic cup over her head quickly and be able to reach under her to get the extra eggs (she was in with the other hens until she hatched, so they still kept trying to lay in her box sometimes). But my other two have been so sweet and will even let me mess with the baby's and not worry. My latest broody just hatched yesterday and I ended up having to take the other two eggs cause she got off the nest ( though I think one of the older chicks from a previous hatch, ran her out trying to get warm) w her one chick with a pipped egg! So I hatched the pipped one this morning in the bator and currently have the other one rocking in my bator. I moved the one I hatched back out with her a couple hours ago.

I use a small meat thermometer and balance it on a small bowl even with about the middle or a tad lower of the bator.
