April Hatch Thread--Come Join Us!

Serenity Lane,
THank you for responding.
The last thing I am thinking is anything bad about the breeder.or putting blame anywhere.
Thought I made that clear but it is hard sometimes to put things in the correct words to make a point writing.
Just trying to figure out what the problem is.......
I never expect greatness from shipped eggs

Just had my hopes up fpr a better percentage.
And, if her Roo took vacation without notice, thought she may want to know.I would.
Thanks again
I don't think you can do anything about the fertility of the eggs, either they are or they are not. If it were me I would want to know that I had a fertility problem with my eggs if I were selling pure. I know pure eggs are way expensive so I can understand you wanting to let her know because it seems like you are not getting your monies worth. If I were the one that shipped you the eggs I would try to work out something to remedy the situation. She might need to get more roos to help ensure fertility...but she might be getting better results now that the weather is normal. I know that every egg I've cooked for breakfast has been fertile, we eat about a dozen a week-sometimes more. When I did my last hatching I had 43 eggs in there and they all were fertile, some stopped developing during lockdown, died in the shell. So if all had went as planned during lockdown I would have had 43...

But with shipped eggs I've heard that it is a huge gamble with all different factors, so having anything hatch from shipped eggs I would count as a blessing. I truly hope all the best for you and your eggs...please keep us all posted. I've not set any shipped eggs but I like learning from everyone so in the future I would like to get shipped eggs I can be prepared in my techniques...

GOOD LUCK

As of right now I have 5 out, 2 D'Uccles, 2 black austrolorps, and my lone blue Ameraucana. He had to be assisted. I have 2 zipping, 4 others pipped and 2 not doing anything...8pm Eastern time started day 23.

Well, I have some great news! My icelandics that arrived with 14 or 15 of 18 with detached and rolling air cells are working on finishing up day 3 and I am down to only 2 having a detached air cells! They only move slightly and not all the way around! I'm soooooooo happy!

Awesome! Did you avoid turning or use the egg crate method? My eggs were shipped with scary air sacks as well and I have kept them at about 45 degree angle after the first 24 hours(in an egg crate). All looks well with the remaining 9 of 14. I also did not turn the first 3 days. I'm gathering notes since I'm about to start the next clutch of shipped eggs by this weekend.

I have 8 eggs that just came today, and are due on the 22nd. I have 8 Salmon Faverolles in my Mini Advance! One has an air cell detached and floating around the egg... What do I do???

Someone may have already told you but what I have read is that you increase the chances of hatching by keeping it in an egg carton big end up while in the bator turning it by propping one end of the carton up and moving your prop to the opposite end of the carton three times a day.

I put mine into the paper egg cartons with holes cut in the bottom of each holder. Left them there without turning them since I set them. I set them late Saturday night. I'm thinking about starting to turn them tomorrow night.

Eta: changed my mind, not turning them until Friday night.

I was thinking about that, but my 'bator is too small to fit an egg carton in.
