how long does turkey eggs take to hatch?????? My SIL wants to grow some for christmas?
I might have a go at hatching a few if these chicks work out. I have never used this incubator before so fingers very much crossed! The temp is holding very well and the eggs are lovely and warm and toasty! THEY ARE STILL BLUE! Deffinately not Dorkings! When and if they hatch you guys can tell me what you think they are -lol As I managed to get myself a lucky dip!

Oes -

I think they have to pip internally before they can churp in the egg, or they will not have any air to churp with. At least I would think this to be correct, as there should be no churp sound with liquid. So if the eggs are churping, they have piped internally, I would think.

Correct, but I am bad and candled the eggs after most of my pips had hatched out fully. If there it's just one tiny pip in an egg and I'm curious I'll pop open the incubator, check them quickly and throw the top back down. Incubators open for less than 30 seconds. Never had any problems.

I have 27 eggs in the incubator set to hatch next Wednesday, and then seven more under a broody that will hatch within a few days of that. (It's always hard to tell with broodies, isn't it?) Then I have another broody with eggs that will hatch near the end of the month or early may... Big hatching season for me this year!

Everything here is a go! Geeeezzzzz I'm overflowing with eggs/peeps/big chickens...i'm addicted AND I DON'T CARE

I haven't ever seen one. I've done up one for myself on paper, and am thinking of converting it to a chart for a page here, so others don't have to go through all the calculating. I don't know how to code the table for the chart format, so that's my holdup.

The formulas I used, I got off a forum somewhere.

W - (0.0057 x D x W)
W - (0.0067 x D x W)

W = start weight
D = days of incubation

Do those two simple equations, and it will give you your weight range with 12-14% weight loss for each egg, at any day of incubation you choose to weigh them.

Of course you'll need a very accurate scale. To test yours, plop a penny on there, they weigh 2.5 grams.

Example - Egg weighs 60 grams at the start. At day 5, your weight loss range should be from 58.29 - 57.99 grams. Day 10 it should weigh 56.58 - 55.98 grams, etc.

Hope that helps any?
Oh thank you so much for the formula. I was racking my head trying to figure it out. I will be setting my eggs in the incubator next week and I want to do everything right (don't we all)!! Thanks again you're a life saver!!

Eep! I need to sit down and get caught up on this thread. I wish I had more hours in the day. Maybe I could tweak an extra bator into a time machine ... Woke up this morning to one more out - an Isbar/Americauna olive egger. Also have a pip on the one Amerauacana egg in there. Fingers crossed for a splash!

Got my swap partner names for the WYSWYG April swap, and am excited to get to shopping for them. I love swaps.

Turkey eggs take about 28 days to hatch.

You're very welcome! Once you start working with it, it's very easy to remember. I don't trust my candling skills and old eyes to figure the air cell growth perfectly, but the gram scale doesn't lie. A lot of my eggs were difficult to see through, and it was very comforting to see that they were on track. If your number is high, you lower your humidity. If it's too low, you bump it up.

Congrats on all the new babies, and good luck to those still waiting.

I can't keep up with all the hatches! April is a busy, busy month!!!

So, of the 13 goose eggs I set, one was discarded at lockdown on Tuesday. As of this morning, ELEVEN others have hatched!!!!!

I checked and the air cell on the 13th one is still small so I will give it another couple of days before an eggtopsy.

Otherwise, YAY!!!!!!!!!!!

They are unbelievably cute. I mean, seriously KEE-UTE!

Ok, IMHO. LOL

I sold two yesterday already at 48 and 24 hrs old. I think I'd like to keep the rest...

(just gotta break the news to hubby. lol)

Welpers, I set 6 turkey eggs and got 6 chicks. They are Bourbon Red X Narragansett, should taste just fine. Have to say the B tom and the NG hen do well together. Clean hatches and active chicks.
