I have 2 chicks from BB. A blue that I'm 80% sure is a pullet. She was raised indoors. The other blue is the chick I gave to Bonita and Lil Girl. I'm 80% sure that is a cockerel. The chick I helped hatch is the confirmed cockerel that's been trying to crow. He's also the one with 2 crooked toes. The first year is probably the hardest Trish. You did have a couple of major set backs unfortunately.
Which chick/s did you help hatch? Also which chick is from Bluebell?
I tried zip ties with the first hatch... that was a joke! They kept slipping off. My hatches have been small enough I can remember who is who.How will you be tracking the progeny of your breeders Trish? Zip ties, leg bands, wing bands?
The new chick is not tufted.
Talk about crappy beginner's luck. Only one of the 12 chicks I have hatched this year is tufted. At least one parent of all the chicks were tufted.
That comb looks pretty tight. Hopefully it stays that way as he matures.Four weeks old today
That's a lot of comb for 4 weeks old! Looks like his tufts will be bigger than his dad's, and more mottled.
Both mottled chicks are going out to a sectioned off area of the coop today. I can't stand the stink and mess any longer!

My SEVENTH Araucana has gone broody! That is 7 out of 9 pullets/hens! It is the clean faced black hen with Triple Tufts. Unfortunately I'll have to break her since there's not enough room in that coop for 2 broods. The tufted black has been sitting in there for a week. The BBR, the only other hen in that flock, tried going broody last weekend but she quit on her own. Love that Araucana broodiness!
