Araucana thread anyone?

Lanae! How are you and your Araucana's?

I haven't heard much from you this summer and I was hoping it was all going well. Have anything for sale or swap? It's too hot to ship but I'm looking for more blacks and whites (LF). Did you see Columbo's pic? I thought of you when I was snapping his pics, he would be nice for your duckwing project. I only have 2 hens that look ducking to me and I'm thinking I may put him in that pen for a while.

Thanks Josh, I found the polish and some were frizzled....wow, wild looking

I have a golden laced standard cochin rooster and I found the "recipe" for the color and it includes the golden laced. I'm not sure I'd like that better than my GL but they're still cool.

I am planning once the weather gets cooler to get some Araucana eggs too hatch.

What colors should true Araucanas be ?

I hatched this EE roo from a blue egg, definitely like his coloring ... what would you classify this color has ?

No idea, but he is pretty.

Colors accepted by the APA for araucanas are Black, Black Breasted Red, Golden Duckwing, Silver Duckwing, and White, for both large fowl and bantam sized.

The American Bantam Association accepts Black, Black Breasted Red, Blue, Buff, Silver, and White, but are limited to bantam sized since that is that the organization specializes in.

That doesn't mean they don't come in other colors! I adore the little cuckoo girl I got from some hatching eggs, she is tufted and rumpless, just a non standard color.

red/buff columbian?

Araucanas come in a ton of colours some accepted some not. you need to find a respectable breeder to get pure stock. Their genes are a bit of a challenge because although the picture perfect araucana is rumpless willow legged and tufted, 2 such birds bred together could produce a tuftless tailed bird....

Nope. Mille Fleur is a basic spangling over crowwing/brown-red. It's reddish orange plumage with a black dot, then a white dot.

True Tolbunt is gold lacing with white tips/mottling. Like such:

Not the greatest, honestly. I've gotten myself a wonderously huge greenhouse growing, and am growing and eating the best foods one can imagine (some one can't imagine growing out here, too) but there's been a lot of stress going on too. Long story. Plus about half my flock got reduced, and that was partially saddening.

But, at least I have a very lush pasture for my girls now. . .

Which has helped beef 'em up good. . .

Gosh, I have so much to learn.
For example, what is pyle? I tried to google, got only Gomer LOL!

How do I start selecting stock for egg color? Can I ask for that from a breeder? I know a lot of the Araucana eggs are greenish. I want to focus on blue-blue eggs. I guess that will be my breeding project.

Smoothmule, I haven't met the nearby breeder yet. We're getting together for lunch later this week, if we can get our schedules synched.

ETA- it was a big PO distribution center, not the local PO. There were quail on a loading dock, and no one seemed concerned that they weren't delivered to the local PO.
I agree with you about the local PO, our ladies at the PO are very concerned with the fate of the chicks. Once, I got a call because they couldn't find the recipient of a hatchery delivery, and didn't want the chicks to be alone overnight.
