Are Black Astralorps nice?

I'd thought I'd try Black Astralorps. Are they generally friendly?

Our dominiquers (sp) are mean- they peck!

I have a bunch of Black Australorps and they are quiet and kind. I do have several roos that are mean, though. They're headed for the stewpot.

I had a Black Astralorp last year, that I borrowed from a local 4H'er to help out with the grasshopper problems here and she was a sweetie.

Don't know if it was the breed or the fact she was a 4H'er chicken, but I enjoyed her.

Yes, I would recommend them. They are good layers and good chickens. They're eggs aren't as big as Orphingtons, but they may lay a little bit better.

We have four Australorp hens and they are all very sweet. My kids pick them up and pet them all the time and they don't fight at all... they seem to like the gentle petting.

I also had an Australorp Roo last year who became very aggressive to my children so he was re-homed.

I have 5 black australorps and 20 buff orpingtons, ALL are friendly. They follow me around like puppies, jump in my lap, and one is a chattie girl who asks for her treats. Great choice for children also. You won't be disappointed.
