My best guess: she was a barred x silver penciled Plymouth rock (hatchery had both). She was a Beaut! So sorry you lost her! Thank you for sharing! I've never seen one so light. I like that.

I wanna see how this one turns out!
The Hilarious thing about "Ben" aka The Flash, the girl that works at TSC had 2 chicks that she could not keep so I got them from her. I got them when they were only 2 weeks old. He was an "ABSOLUTELY" for sure Pullet. Lol. He was the first one to develop a comb and his feathers were so different from my Hens. Her and I text still. I told her after a week of having him that I was sure he was a rooster. She was saying oh no. There is no way! Those chickens just have large combs. Hahaha. I knew better but it is funny that someone can make you question yourself. Thanks so much for reaffirming my thoughts.California is roo (very clearly)
The barred is a hen. If she was a he, her comb would be much larger than a hen the same age. Chickens have varying colorations, some have more white leakage than others.
That one is undoubtedly a rooster, nothing hen about that. Makes me worry sometimes about the people who work with the chickens at TSCThe Hilarious thing about "Ben" aka The Flash, the girl that works at TSC had 2 chicks that she could not keep so I got them from her. It is hilarious! The seriously funny part is she told me "she" was an Amberlinks! Then when I saw "her" for the first time I said that is NOT an Amberlinks?? I didn't care but come on girl. He does have one black spot on his back so she said well probably a Smokey Pearl then. Lordy. I have 2 of those and they are NOTHING like that. Two strikes. Well really 3 with the whole wrong gender thing. I knew he was a he and what type chick he was. Heck I should work at TSC on chick days. That one is undoubtedly a rooster, nothing hen about that. Everytime I go there to get chicks I have to talk them through what was what with the chickens and I have never worked there lol.
It's less the barring on that chick and more the comb development at that ageI had a hen with mixed up barring like the one in questionView attachment 3850916View attachment 3850917Lost her recently to reproductive issues. She was a sweetheart, loved bananas, would JUMP for them, and the 1st chicken I ever saw who I thought would need a crop bra.
Keep watching the odd one.

Yeah I believe we are correct. I'm up here with them now. And the for sure hen out of the 3 has a very yellow comb and is smaller in size all around. See the first couple pics is the chick in question. The 2nd to last is the for sure rooster and the last is the hen. The hen is still VERY yellow and has barley any comb. This one is not as big as Sigma(the big guy) but it is a lot more obvious than the other. The feet are huge and chest bumps the other 2 guys. Lol. Could be a tom boy like I used to be? HahaIt's less the barring on that chick and more the comb development at that age
Is he a Jersey Giant?I have a couple of pullets now, 14ish weeks old that had me wondering at about the 6 week age. One had just enough comb growth to be larger than the other. Waiting isn't easy, but will come clear....eventually.
I've also picked a roo out of a straight run at the feed store (3-4 days old), certain was a roo from the beginning.View attachment 3850925He's a sweetheart too.
