B S you have obviously never been bitten by one ,, I have,,, I lost 17 chickens to one last year and all were big heavy chickens , I caught him one nite and didn't have my gun so I hit him with a shovel and thought he was a goner till I picked him up to move him out of the pen , THEY WILL KILL BIG CHICKENS AND HAVE A VERY STRONG BITE , and they will come back again and again
I am an ex coon hunter and have had big possoms whip 2 or 3 puppies and get away . If you have a walk in trap set it right next to the fence side ways and cover the trap with feed bags , pine straw ,sticks anything to hide it and put leaves on the trap floor to hide the wire , and bait it with sardines if there is a possom or coon you will catch it , haul it in the trap at least 10 miles away and turn it loose .

For your .22 there are CB Caps; the only thing you'll hear is the firing pin. Much quieter than a pellet rifle, which is my first urban choice. Most all sporting goods stores sell affordably priced pellet rifles. Another fantastic method is to just drop the live trap into a barrel of water.

i quite like your way of thinking! my dad had a "possum catcher" as he called it that was like what another poster mentioned; the pvc and wire "noose". i think that i'll have to make myself one of those!

and then drown it in a barrel of water. i guess that makes me a heartless you-know-what, but i have no sympathy for anything trying to kill my beloved chickens!!! and possums are so nasty, they look like huge overgrown rats, so i have no problem being "cruel" to them. maybe i'm just a really cruel person?
