20 below isn't when it becomes an issue. My birds start losing points, and some have lost toes in temperatures that were 20 above. When it gets to 20*F, birds start having issues. Their combs release heat that the bird desperately needs. Games are not bred for the cold. They lack the feathering for it as well as the closely-held comb. So think of it as helping them along.
I have lost too many birds to a cold winter. When I have birds that I don't intend on showing (males), I go ahead and dub.
