I've looked into FAL rifles, and I can't seem to find one for under $900. With 7.62 NATO and .308 being as expensive as it is, the FAL, as much as I'd love one, is a little out of my price range. I share the concerns regarding the surplus market in Russian rounds, especially 7.62X54R and 5.45, since few U.S. companies manufacture it. We already can't import Russian or Chinese combat rifles or semi-auto shotguns (too bad, I'd love a Saiga 12), so it wouldn't be a shock if a certain president and 3 certain presidential candidates (yes, I include 3 of the 4 Republicans in my concerns) decided to block off Russian ammo imports. I'll say this - I definitely want to have a *very* large stash of ammo in sealed cans before Election Day. Call me paranoid, but gun and ammo prices are already going up again.
Hopefully, I'll have my MAK-90 by then, too. Any future "assault weapons ban," if one ever shows up, probably wouldn't deal with already-owned assault weapons. If it DID... that would not bode well for the poor souls who are sent to enforce it. Thus, I suspect any hypothetical "ban" would have no effect on those who already own the guns, not to mention Congress would be promptly reorganized in the off-year elections.
Personally, I want full-auto weapons to be legalized, without all the crazy licensing and limitations. If I'm not mistaken, all the full-auto weapons available legally are ludicrously expensive, because we're not allowed to buy recently-manufactured ones. I wanna get my hands on a PKM.
Those things look like so much fun. It's like an AK-47 on steroids forged in the fires of Mordor, except chambered in 7.62X54R! Or, if you prefer, a Mosin-Nagant that fires SIX HUNDRED ROUNDS PER MINUTE.
