Are your ducks breeds as their standard suggests?

Im sure she is so friendly because she was imprinted to humans. Unfortunately it is not possible to potty train a duck because the don't have the muscle to hold it in. They poop when they have to, where ever they are. If she's walking around the room, she'll usually go to her pen if she needs to poop. Once in a while I have to grab a lysol wipe and clean anything up. If she's hanging out for a while, we have duck designated blankets and towels we'll throw down over us, the couch, the car etc. and if she goes to the bathroom, it's on something I can easily shake off outside and throw in the washer. We have duck diapers but I try not to use them... I'll put it on if were going out in public into a store or a persons house. She lives indoors full time and I just feel like it would be so unfair to make her wear a diaper full time. It works out pretty well though and her pen isn't too difficult to keep up with.
I just think of mine... pooping machines!
I'm glad you don't make her wear a diaper, I agree. Doesn't seem fair. Sounds like you've got a good system worked out with her. A house duck. Who'da thunk?!

Another good example of what can happen if enough time is spent with them. Super cool. Every runner I've ever been around has been crazy skittish, but I still think they're hilarious. Like little bowling pins running about.

They imprint. But we do that on purpose. The ducklings live in our kitchen so they can get used to us and the cat. We let the adult females lay near them when they want to during the day. (or men who want to). We have other buildings and sheds and such, an extra kitchen (don't know the English word, a room next to your kitchen where you put your dirty muddy shoes off and was your hands when you come from the garden, usually the freezer is also there). They can stay in all those places since it has electricity. But we choose to let them grow up in the kitchen (allthough the smell is not allways nice, quacks keep you out of your sleep, and although in a seperate caged part it's not the most hygenic) so they get more used to us. When they tend to get older and get with steps introduced to the rest of the flock they imprint on others, in someway. They imprint on the other ducks, but all still a bit on us (some more then others) which is handy for us; they are fine with each other being a duck-flock but let us know when something is wrong and they need us. And we can pick them up when needed too without them being stressed. It becomes more of an symbioses of some sort. They know they are ducks, but also know that they can trust us. From young age we train them daily when young to 2-3 times weekly that being picked up means snack. Just to keep them used to it when picking up is needed for some medical stuff. Some of them are more outgoing for some reason, and decide that they can decide when to sit on our lap and such. I don't really know why. Just like cats. Is it because they like us or is our lap just a warm place?
We will never know. But we are fine with that. I just want to be able, for them, to check them from upclose for diseases with the least amount of stress for them.

Most of my mallards are to the show standard, my Black muscovies are almost but they’re a bit too small. Also, some have a bit of chocolate in them that won’t help. My Pekins are definitely not pure.

We have 3 Runner females coming in late April they will be brooded inside so we can spend a lot of time with them. My others were brooded by Muscovy moms, I am looking forward to seeing the difference in Runners brooded inside compared to the ones brooded by their moms outside.

Please don´t forget to share by that time!

This is called a mud room in the english vocabulary!

Our ducks all meet the standard. They eat, poop, drink water, waste water, drill in the mud, quack, or rasp. The Runner is the calmest when picked up and he also watches for danger the most. The KC hen makes the most sounds but is not the loudest. KC drake is the best flyer. One Rouen hen IS the loudest. The other quacks at any sound of runnin water. The Pekin hen makes some weird clucking sounds and used to be the loudest. That was this week. It may change in the morning.
