I have a chick that has pipped and zipped, but now seems to be unable to go any further. It's been that way since about 9am, the edges around where he's zipped are all crusty and dried out and i'm afraid he may be, too. Should I help him?

Quick- go here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=9316

You'll
need to drip some water in, following the directions very closely. I did this successfully, following the instructions, Sunday, and I have a lovely little chick for it!!

DON'T HURRY!!

Sometimes there's a reason it's going slow- don't ever remove it from the shell. Never take off the bottom half. It has to detach from that itself, or you could kill it due to the umbilical connection and the yolk sack.

If it can breath and you get the top off (read it all carefully so the chick doesn't bleed to death) LET IT DO THE REST NO MATTER HOW LONG IT TAKES!!

Best of luck!!
