Mahonri Congratulations on the win.

So we can say "We knew him when.."

constance Ducks are no more work than the chickens. I've got about 30 running around the yard, and they stay in the coop at night with the chickens. They are a runner cross, so they don't fly, just run around in herds.

pastrymama I tried calling before I got there but no answer, so I just dropped them off and left. I was running behind anyway. No, I didn't know how much cholesterol they had, just knew they were supposed to be rich.

So, I could have great eggs, AND entertainment for the crazy sheltie we have?! Hmmmm... I wonder if there are duck-herding trials?

Really???? We have now 3 2week old chicks that are bantam buff brahmas. We only even got them to keep our lone little silkie girl company. She is such a sweet little girl, everyone's favorite. But, she is soooo much smaller than everyone else and doesn't seem happy about it. We got the chicks for her, but never thought they might turn out to be as sweet. That is exciting!

Ok, I guess I shouldn't laugh, and it's probably a sign that I don't live in town, AND have a VERY understanding DSO who thinks chickens are hilarious, and baby chicks are cuter than anything, but when you all have to hide or make excuses for an extra chick or two I bust up laughing.

We have who knows how many, and lots more new ones, and then I tell her I have more eggs coming and she doesn't bat an eye.

And, pastrymama, its all your fault for finding me an outlet for the eggs, and a source of feed at the same time.

A house roo!? You have chicken-itis in a big way!

I have to say, however, that your are not the only person I know with a house chicken! Last fall the neighbor down the street was bringing in FIVE roos every night:

The seramas sound great, go for it!

It seems so crazy! But, I have to admit, I have thought about bringing our silkie in. She seems to prefer people to chickens, and is it really any different than having a parrot in the house? They are both birds! She would have to stay in a cage of some sort, since I am not a fan of poop all over the house and I am NOT changing a bird's diaper. But, although I never thought I would be able to, I can relate.

They are pretty amusing, watching them run around in herds. When I walk out the back door in the morning to let everyone out of the Arizona room to run around they see me on the porch from probably 60 feet away and start quacking in greeting. It sounds like 30 little Burgess Merideths doing The Penguin in the old Batman T.V. show.

I shoooore do love all these chick pics!

Even the emu is adorable. Laree, you don't want to miss an opportunity like that!

Those grubs are awesome! We rarely find them anymore. When one of the chickens finds one, they all run and scream and fight over it. A friend in town dug up a bunch, but killed them before I knew about it. I would love to treat the girls to a snack like that!

Bob, I am jealous that you don't have to control your chicken collecting. Can you talk to my hubby for me? Tell him I just need him to build one more pen, or four.

Constance, I want ducks, too! They are sooo cute! But, I hear they poop even more than chickens, and I try to remind myself of that when the itch gets going. That is why I am leaning towards quail...tiny poopies.

Bob, not only can you say "you knew him when".... and yeah, he's that good.

YOU can say you spilt blood for him TWICE!!!

His performance in the school musical will be the evenings and afternoons (on Sat) April 28-30th at the SMHS Auditorium, it will be worth the watch.

Hahaha, I do have chicken-itis in a big way

It's more to keep the neighbors happy though since I'm in a development. Don't want anyone to have a reason to complain. He'll be in a cat carrier to sleep at night, then back out at a descent time (probably 8am ... figure the neighbs all should all be up by then ... if not is no worse than the ones that have lawn service behind us at dawn on Saturdays!). I'm sure we will be playing with him before he goes to sleep though! No diapers for us either! Though just wait, I said I wasn't going to incubate eggs for at least a few years, and what do you think is coming in the mail - LOL! The serama egg variety

I'm going to be the Sarama Mamma

May have to order another bator with express shipping if the tortoises cooperate this year

My bigger female is over 5 inches now ... so should happen. AND the male now knows which end of the female to give attention to. He was after the sides of the girls last year! My smaller female is about 4 1/2 inches, so she has a year or two to go before she could lay eggs. Oh, they are Russian Torts, not Sulcatas, so they stay small

Somehow, I don't think we would just love ducks in our pool, or the neighbors would enjoy hearing them quack quack. We'll have to wait for them until we have our acre!
