Chickens that is for me, since I don't have any turkeys ... how loud are they? If the neighbors wouldn't notice I might try one ... however would have to do extreme wing clip. I think it would give it away if it decided to roost on my roof, like my friend's heritage turkey does!

Rooftops are for guinea fowl, not turkeys!

Our tom turkey is quieter than our roos, but not by much.

only the toms are noisy with any sound
guineas sound like there barking
when someone gets close to them

Only my tom is noisy. He goodilieegoodiliees when the kids are screaming, when the DH revs the truck at him, and when he and the dog are having a goodilee/bark-off. Otherwise he's pretty quiet.

Even the loudest goodileegoodiliee doesnt seem to have the carry of a rooster crowing. Nor is it as irritating.

i bought some chicks at the pet club on country club
last year and they said they were chicks
and nope they were giant turkeys
or also know as broad breasted giant turkeys
kind of same thing as a broiler chicken but a turkey
i like the heritage turkeys better
the giant turkeys are only good for eating

I guess the better question would be what kind do I NOT want - hehehehe!

I just stopped by there and currently they have RIR, Longhorns and Black Astralorps. Last month they had RIR, Amercaunas and some other one...I don't remember. The girl working there said the owner usually orders RIR, Leghorns, Amercaunas and some kind of cross breed...and the hatchery sends whatever they have in stock. The ones there now have been there since Saturday, and she said the last batch sold out in 3 days! HTH!

I'm going to try calling to some other feed stores and see if I can't get the ones I want!
