I just stopped by there and currently they have RIR, Longhorns and Black Astralorps. Last month they had RIR, Amercaunas and some other one...I don't remember. The girl working there said the owner usually orders RIR, Leghorns, Amercaunas and some kind of cross breed...and the hatchery sends whatever they have in stock. The ones there now have been there since Saturday, and she said the last batch sold out in 3 days! HTH!

I'm going to try calling to some other feed stores and see if I can't get the ones I want!

Cutie! I couldn't even see the chick at first. The description of your candling adventure had me smiling. Hoping for continued goodness for all impending hatchers.

I didn't see it either until I knew what I was looking for. Even then it took me a minute.

Hi all! First, I enjoy reading all your posts and hope to soak up as much info as I can.

I've decided to raise a few hens again but would like a little advice on pest control around them. I live in suburban Mesa and have the usual insects that I just don't typically spray for. My last coop was built against the east side of my home but had a problem with black widows living between the coop and the wall of the house. My new coop will be located against a block wall so I'm afraid I'll have the same problem. I looked into Orange Guard but it doesn't say that it works on spiders. Any advice on how to keep the black widow population down around the coop? Is it possible to spray behind the coop with regular spray while the girls are free ranging as long as I let it dry well before allowing them back in? I hate to resort to that unless it's the only option. I've seen what a bite does to a human. I just don't want to lose one of my girls to one.

Thanks for any advice offered.
