Arizona Chickens

. Yes it dose, but it is not. We just do not have many from the rest of the state. Please help use become more AZ BYC. I know of a number of others, from above I-40 and not fare from it to the south. Some have spotty internment service or they only post occasionally. My good friend, Flower, is in The north East part and posts only occasionally, I know she has internment like mine, we need to travel to get to it. I'm Pheonix, but for the next couple of yearns I will be traveling all over the US. August and September I will be in Iowa and Minneasota. Then heading south again. Have not decided on ware yet. My girls are doing fine, Ethal is getting close to laying her first egg. Have not added a nesting box yet. Not to sure how I am going to add it. They roost at night in the closed side. I think I am goiing to try to turn it into nesting box, but that is also the side they use to go into the coop. Thought of cutting box shape in one side then making a nesting box that I can slide in and out, in when we are moving. But the idea is to let them have some space when I have stopped moving to move around in.

Went to Montoke fishing and to check out the area. I think I will go there with the girls to camp 2 or 3 days. It will be the first challenge to "pet friendly" RV parks. On my way there I was able to snap this picture:

I didn't caught ant trouts, but I did caught fish...

Love your updates! I think a box will work as a nesting box.

That really looks like a pullet but that's quite a comb for 10 weeks. Are you sure of the age?
If it's a pullet it looks like she is getting ready to lay soon. Has she squatted for you?

I hatched them in my Kindergarten classroom between May 7-9, so I'm sure of the age. The big comb and wattle is what is making me think rooster, but the friend I got the eggs to incubate from said she has some hens with very large combs. No eggs yet...I wasn't expecting that until about 6 months. Is that about right? :>

Hi everybody! Is there anyone in AZ who has had issues with mold growing either in the coop/house or on the ground in the pen/enclosure? The moisture is obviously terrible in monsoons. I am trying to keep everything as dry as possible but it is really tricky. Any suggestions or input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
So glad you are on, & :welcome We have had Texas root rot.. It took out 4 trees, it is a fungus.. The tree was gone in about one week, quick & swift.. You might be able to look it up on here.. :idunno I can't remember the name of the mold or bacteria or fungus @pastrymama. Had one year.. But it did not sound good.. Maybe she will chime in..

Haha! I love my NN! I have always been interested in them, and finally kept one. I was hoping for a hen, but looks like I got a handsome cockerel! I am in N Tucson. :)
well I will have LOTS and LOTS of NN coming this spring in a lot of varieties if you are interested. My farm page is on FB and is https://www.facebook.com/PrickleyAcresFurbabies?ref_type=bookmark

If you want to see some of mine. I have Marans NN roo and a Marans hen to see if I get chocolate eggs and I have Ameraucana NN hens and roo in blue and black and browns. I also have a large (idk what breed) roo that I will be mixing for some meat birds. I am also working on some showgirls and so I have a lot of NN projects planned for the coming year.

@Papas Chickens @Gallo del Cielo Here is my bush not sure if its Texas Lilac or not and I have no idea how to get seeds but it is doing so good here.
I'm pretty sure that is Spanish lavender.
@City farm (hope I have the right one) I found out I have 10 drakes and only 3 ducks (hens). We will be processing the drakes this weekend. I guess I better learn to cook duck!! and like it.
Yum!
I have NN chickens and I got a HUGE rooster that I plan on crossing them with for meat birds. I will have some next year if you are interested in my NN meat bird experiment. OMGosh I love everything about my NN and yes they are not for show but for FUN!!! I have so many plans for them. :). They are my favorite breed!!!! I cannot wait to get mine set up and going :welcome never heard of mold growing in the coop. Can your coop dry out at all? I was thinking of buying one of those, are they worth it? I still need to get with you. I think we figured out an Avery. Will the quail get along or be ok with Peacocks?
The peacocks will probably step on the quail, they are tiny in comparison and have no sense of self-preservation. Also I don't know if peacocks carry Coryza like chickens do. Coryza is deadly to quail so it's best if quail are housed away from chickens and probably peacocks.
X2 Spanish lavender, When I was at the feed store the manger said Coryza is going around like crazy right now.. Will be looking it up to see what that is all about.. It is from migrating birds. Arizona is on that path.. :th

I mostly want to grow Texas Lilacs in my run because the seeds can be eaten by the chickens and they wont destroy the bushes and there droppings wont kill it, plus they grow very good in hot weather.

OK, this is bugging me.  When you say Texas Lilacs do you mean vitex?  These get to be deciduous large woody shrubs or small trees?  If so then I can get some seeds from my neighbor, but I also think I saw vitex seeds in the seed box at @City farm 's house.

Vitex is monk tree.. I just transplanted 7 of them if they make it I will give them away, or I will also save the seeds & add to the box, :weee
I should of waited, we will see..
