Arizona Chickens

Oh my hubby loves them as much as me. He gives them their veggies every day. I have to keep mine inside as not supposed to have them.

This is supposedly a free country but the government can sure tell you what you can and cannot do or have.

I agree with you on the supposed to be a free country. Many people "think" that we are still free, though.

thanks for the help. I did just buy them some calcium citrate with vit d after reading another article. I will try this and see how it works. I read that others had tried the shells and this works better. So I will keep ya posted!!! She had this one outside the nesting box and unfortunately I don’t know which of my five did it! So all five big girls got the treat with the calcium. And as for talking to the girls I do the same thing and so do my kids!!! I love the way they look at you when you talk to them

Oyster shell is what most of the old-time poultry folks I know use. They need to have calcium available at all times. Oyster shell is inexpensive and it works. I always have a feeder of oyster shell out so the hens can take what they need when they need it. They need a lot of it. My coop with 8 hens was going through a cup or two of oyster shell every few days. They have slowed down on egg production since it got hot, so they may also slow down on oyster shell consumption for a while. But I'm still having to fill the shell feeder a couple of times a week.

I don't think a little calcium citrate sprinkled on a berry is going to be an adequate calcium supply for a fully productive hen, but I've been wrong before.

Today the girls are officially one year old! :celebrateIt's their birthday! After three stressful years of teaching, I decided to take a year off and do something just for me. My dad had given me some birthday money and I got on to MyPetChicken.com one evening and placed an order for ten hatchlings. I had never raised chicks before and wasn't sure what to expect, but I was ready to learn. On this day one year ago, ten little chickies hatched and were boxed up and sent all the way from Ohio to the post office in Marana, Arizona :love I will never forget opening up that box. I was so worried they wouldn't survive that long trip, but there they were...ten little "beeps" as my husband called them...what a rewarding journey it has been. Here's to many more years, girls! We are celebrating with yogurt, pineapple and worm soufflé! :clap

@DesertChic What do you think - roo? I'm hoping SHE (we call her Blondie) is just so blonde that her growing up shows like a zit before prom. I really can't determine if she has saddle feathers. AND a little bit of eye candy. Our little copper top, penciled feathers - we call her Penny.

Last year may 10th was my buffs first b day Angel had just left us, but I peeled a cantelope so it looked like an egg, and put a toothpick topped with a raisin for the "candle" I think I filmed it but it didn't go well so I never posted it maybe I'll search it out to show everyone but I came in with it and everyone was interested I put it on the ground and they all got scared and jumped back at the scary egg cantaloupe :idunno
