Arizona Chickens

Are you sure you didn't just get into my head and type my thoughts?! 😂 The kids have been saying the exact same thing, and there is a family history of hoarding.. and I am done. I may not be able to change their thinking, but I don't have to live with it (only because I am the boss.. you are in a position of having to negotiate/agree). I have spent the last few years, daily, explaining what is trash, what are nice things, and how we want to get rid of broken things or things we don't use so we can have more space for new/nice things.. yea.. I am talking to myself. So it is all gone. I just finished cleaning out the second kiddos room. There are more "imagination" things in there (art supplies, legos, circuit boards, sewing projects), but if those end up everywhere, then they can go too.

The next messy place is my fault, the laundry room. It has become a stash point as I have cleared the house. Should be done within the hour and then I am loading up the truck and heading to goodwill!
If everyone avoided the junk to begin with...but you know how it is. Holidays, birthdays, etc everyone gives you something that has to do with a hobby but isn’t useful. Like chicken decor that you have no place for instead of a gift card to the local TSC.

Hah chicken decor 😂 i hate knick knack stuff... i have a candle holder and a fake cactus in my family room.. although on occasion i do look at wreaths.. but have decided to keep them for holidays.

The kids not only keep every item ever received, but the wrappers and rocks and sticks and whatever. So now they can have a FEW favorite books.. but im done. They can be hoarders when they are 18 🤷‍♀️

Those are our chicken and dog poop bags! :)

Well.. for whatever reason, the bait stations I ordered are on their way back. Looks like *maybe* they got damaged in transit, but I never saw them. I will have to get the smaller ones from Lowes, which don't look all that great to me, but something is better than nothing. I want to enjoy the weather and want those critters gone! I don't think either neighbor picks up dog poop daily, or maybe ever, so that is another food source. Hopefully the rat nests are somewhere on their property so they can enjoy the decay 😂
often tractor supply has the large bait stations, or home depot, sometimes even the dollar stores or walmart, depending on where you live. I got some at tractor supply and have seen them in the other stores I listed, at various times.

I was just at TS yesterday, but the shelf was pretty bare where the traps/stations go. Hopefully i won't need them long.. i would contact the county, they will "track" the rats to figure out the source.. not a ticketing thing, just health and safety.. but i imagine that service is probably not happening w covid. Ill see if the bait works or not, then they will be my next option.

I have a ton of bags I’ve made from old T-shirt’s and the reusable ones from various stores just sitting in the trunk of my car. We aren’t allowed to use them.
DW and I have items put back into cart. Take cart to parking lot. Drop things into our bags. and load trunk. They don't allow reusable bag use inside stores here also.

I understand that! With the kids here I bulk cook and we eat it for a few days. When it’s just me and hubs I’d tend to freeze leftover bulk stuff for future meals and cook a lot differently. As for the stuff, hubs wants to hang on to everything for “some day” and I’m ready to get rid of it. The useful stuff is one thing, the dvds we never watch and the clothes he’ll never wear again are something else entirely.
There are a few apps where you can scan your DVD/CD to see if the company will buy them all in one package that you send in after they give you an estimate of what you will make on them.

If you know of a group home or assisted living center or child crisis center they might like DVD/CD for their library (in the past this was easy to donate to these places but now who knows if they are restricting things in addition to people coming thru the doors).

You can always post a free on the curb type ad on Nextdoor or craigslist. I've picked up many things this way, packages of batteries (used for med devices for only a few hours - still perfect for less critical things), odd packages of leftover laminate flooring, shelves, a big piggy bank, huge candle holders, a plastic knock-downable doghouse, etc... also a couple of foam coolers which i used to build my incubator!

People are just gross....

Some really are. About 15 years ago, I was helping clean the church, and the smell when you walked in was stomach wrenching. Somebody left a poopy diaper in a pew, and the church had been locked up with no AC on during the summer.

I'm another one that reuses plastic bags. It beats buying rolls of plastic bags for the same purpose. And I used to know someone who tore them up and wove them to make 3D pictures. She did a pretty good job.

Just got my first chicken doo-dad yesterday, a stained glass multicolored rooster to hang in the window. But it's only one item, and it's cute. Not gonna start a collection.

See, i like that doo-dad because it is up... not sitting somewhere i would have to dust 😂

Im done clearing out the house.. some stuff has been donated, i have a bunch of hot wheels related toys for a friend's son in the car. Next i just need to buy my new stacked washer and dryer... but i will wait for the next sale.

I'm considering moving the chickens to the laundry room after i rearrange everything. It's pretty large, and right off the oversized hallway they are in now. I'll have to think about it. I could close the door so they aren't disturbed in the evenings or early mornings.. but i might miss seeing them when I walk by 😂
