Arizona Chickens

It's cold, rainy, and windy here today. I hope everyone is staying warm!
We have all of that except for the rain here right now. The chicken's are staying in the coop out of the wind. I walked out to the road to check the mail, and the wind almost blew the mail out of my hand's.

I heard from geckolady that lives up there in Snowflake. She broke her arm a couple of day's ago. Now the chicken tractor that hold's her rooster had the top blown off in this wind, and she can't fix it in the wind and only one good arm, so he might get lose.

Oh no! She doesn't know anyone who can come and help her?
She lives rural. I would, but it's about a 4 hour drive one way. She broke her arm the other day, by slipping on the ice.

Edit: My egg's in the incubator are also on lockdown now, and getting ready to hatch.

Definitely staying inside to stay warm. Weather warnings included "possible power outages"--I've NEVER seen that in an advisory so I've been keeping the place plenty warm to provide a cushion in case of an outage.

The worst of the winds are past us, at least here. The garbage can didn't blow over thank goodness (today was pickup day). I almost got blown over trying to walk down my ramp to check on my birds this morning. I let them out a bit ago, seeing as how the most of the danger of them being hit by flying objects has past. Some snow flurries off an on this morning and at the moment.

Stay safe and warm everyone!

I hope that you have a pile of extra blanket's and afghan's ready to snuggle up in if needed to stay warm.

I do! but with babies in the brooder I'm hoping not to need them. I do have a backup plan in case the power goes out, but hopefully it stays on...
That's good then. It's always best to have a back up plan in place. Sometimes you just have to do what ever you have to do to your best ability.

I just checked on the humidity in my incubator and its now up to 70%. Now if it stays there until they hatch, the hatch should be good to go.

10 miles north of Prescott Airport here -- Terrible constant winds, a little ice and couple inches of snow made for a Snow Day for DH yesterday. Power stayed on so far. Winds are picking up again now but nowhere near the speed or constant blast compared to yesterday. Surprisingly everyone and everything important has stayed in place here so far.

EDIT- Parachute cord and concrete blocks or sandbags go a long way to keeping everything on the ground here. Maybe something like that can be done with one arm by GeckoLady (takes longer) but I resist the urge to go out and save my birds when it might be dangerous to myself. Winds and ice in Snowflake area are no joke.

Glad everything is OK up your way. My next door neighbor that I animal sit for had a tree uproot and fall down in their front yard.
