Arizona Chickens

Billiam, was it one of the girls from your first group or one of the newer birds? I'm really sorry you had to go through this, but judging from your post, it sounded like the right thing to do.

It was one of the newer birds. I put her in a grocery bag and put her in the garbage. I'm feeling guilty for doing that even though I know the dogs would try to dig her up if I were to bury her.

The interesting thing is... Desert plants like desert quanity of water...

otherwise they would not be desert plants.

Yes but the plants that we like to eat like tomatoes, lettuce, squash, cucumbers etc are not desert plants.

Billiam I'm so sorry for you. Life is always hard to take, that is the way it should be. Every time have taken a life it has been difficult. I say a prayer, mostly in thanks for its life will feed me his sacrifice will not be wasted, a few times in apology to relive suffering.

notinoz2007For what it is worth, I have a GFI female outlet on the extension cord outside, but I do not think it could have prevented the bulb from blowing/bursting. Makes it safer. Let us know tomorrow how the chicks are doing,

I'm great full that my dog is not aggressive to my girls. Several years ago I had quail...... They were wild quail but they would come in my condo I was renting. I kept their food inside the closed in porch. They knew where it was. Ernie killed one of them. He seemed confused about it. It's neck was broken. I think he was playing with the pure thing, the quail on the other hand was not. After that he started to chase quail. I got him to stop, I just didn't trust him after that. I watch him around the girls, praying that he knows better now. I do not know if I will ever trust him alone with them.

400

After the last showers I checked on them, one was in the coop, the rest under. They are keeping dry.

I am so thankful for all of the kind words... it still hurts, BUT

Thank you so much for all your prayers in my behalf. I can feel them.

THANK YOU!

Exactly, you can used recycled food grade containers, we found a source in Apache Juction, food grade washed out containers. Check out LDS PREPPER on YouTub, he has a wonderful collection system off his roof. I hope to set one up someday, hopefully this fall. I need tanks, gutters and PVC pipping, and a job!!. A hob is the most important. Living in the painted desert you have less water if I remember correctly (need to look it up). There you need. O collect the maximum amount when it rains. I know a rancher that collects for stock tanks, and he still needs to truck water in between rains.
700
. (276 gal for this size)
.10" = .98 cup water per square foot. Almost a cup. A 30'x20' roof will five you 1500 cups or about 97 US gal. Minus the dirty water buy pass. It adds up.

This system looks bigger than the one we saw in flagstaff.. You could even grow vines on them to hide them.. Or even a box garden..
After I posted the last post I saw this.. I will watch the video on utube.. Thx..

i love the rain, but i dont like what it does to my chicken yard :sick we had dinner guests and i kept all the curtains on the east side closed tight so no one would see the chaos and muddy mangy looking chickens

Yeah it does look so aweful doesn't it!!! I don't like it at all... I think once I get it together with capturing the water for later
use, plus keeping the girls area dry I will be able to enjoy going out there..
Soon very soon, we will have our warm spring...
