Arizona Chickens

Ughhh. I was planning on bathing my rooster for the show this morning, but yesterday I fainted and had a seizure (never happened before, very weird) and this morning I'm just too tired and achy to move.

I just hope I'm able to take care of him by tonight....

Oh, no! I hope you are okay. I wouldn't worry too much about the timing of the rooster bath. Just take care of yourself. One breeder with show-stopping birds adds a few drops of Downy fabric softener to her chicken rinse water to help restore the feathers. She said Downy only, no other brands. Haven't tried it so I can't recommend it personally, but you might consider it if you have to wait until the last minute to bathe the little guy. (She lives on the east coast. I've never seen her birds in person but have seen lots of photos. They are gorgeous.)

Just do like maryhysong does with the spot type clean. Take care of yourself - all will work out as it should.

You are gone for 5 days or so and there are a gazillion emails to catch up on!! Won't hurt me - to just read right now. Not moving fast. My sweet DH is taking care of my girls right now since my kidney was removed last Friday- laproscopic. Cancerous. I guess I'm not as young as I was when I had my gall bladder out or my hysterectomy but I'm healing slowly and it still hurts like the dickens. I really, really, really want to get out in the chicken pasture- it is crazy. I also really, really, really want to head to Tucson for the show but not sure I can walk and stand to enjoy the birds. Amazing what will push you forward!! My yard and coop and run will be crazy dirty by my standards but it will all work out - especially with the cooler weather. Some girls are still in molt - but I'm getting 10-14 eggs a day. Mary all the girls but 2 that I got from you now have names and they come running when someone heads to the fence. Most are finally done molting and the blue egg is still absolutely stunning!! I expect to be out in the yard doing light stuff somewhere around mid-next week. I just can't wait. Maybe its like the new mom that had a section birth - those chicken girls out there make me want to get better right now!! Hopefully I'll see some of you in Tucson - just not sure. Take care and be well........mary

I'm so sorry to hear this. Will you have to do any other treatment? I hope it's all gone now.

@gallodelcielo I looked at your coop page, and it is amazing! Is there anyway I can convince you to help me design and/or build my pren reinforcement?

Well thank you! I missed your post earlier, that gallodelcielo (without spaces) is my impostor so I didn't get the notification. I don't really have the time to build anything right now, but in a couple weeks I would have some time to come look at your set-up and offer my thoughts if that would help. Let me know. If you have ideas now, post them and we can all offer our insights. It's much better with a diverse group of folks offering their suggestions.

Another broody hen! :idunno
I think this would be the 9 th one this year. We have a small flock.. The silkie decided to be a mom 4x. Cheryl is one of our families favorite..
could we have Cheryl lay on some of my fertilized barnyard egg mixes with black Copper Marans? I have no incubator and it would be sure fun to see the chicks!!

Thanks for the offer.. We have some egg's..
Actually it is Clair who is now broody. Cheryl is raising 4 still. I meant to say she went broody 4x this year..
