We had a wonderful thunder & lightening storm here as well. The duck's were enjoying digging in the mud for worm's.. I ended walking to my DF house inbetween the rain.. I got there & with in minutes it started pouring down.. I had to carry our 20 year old kitty.. She used to like to go on walks but is to old.. It was about 3 blocks away.. She just hung out with us as the rain poured down. We shared a bottle of wine and (debrief'ed) about her, my DF vacation .. We prebrief, post- brief & then we finally debrief after we have parties, or neighborhood gathering's. It fun.. You get to hear what everyone had to say about stuff.. It kinda funny.. We call eachother & say, "when can you debrief" & that gives us a excuse to have another drink.. Although after one I'm done in.. Let us know when you are traveling this way.. :frow when it is cooler we will do Bon fire /potluck and you can take the BYC seed box, if you would like..

Yeah! That first egg is always so exciting! I'm getting a dozen eggs per day from my steady layers and I still get excited when one of my pullets lays her first egg. And when it's a pretty color like that it's twice as exciting. Congrats!
 
My one egg layer (I have another hen but she's a free loader) quit for about 3 weeks. She's back in action and I am very happy

my silkie roo seems to be doing good with the no crow collar I made, though I'm not outside much with this heat to really observe him a ton, but I haven't heard him crow since last week. I think he attempted to mount one of my girls today though. None of the pullets were squatting for me as I've been testing them the past week or 2, approaching them with my hand out to see if they'd react with a squat. They are just under 18 weeks but I found a teeny little pullet egg in the run today. I'm assuming it was from my silver laced cochin as she's the only one I have that "should" lay a light brown egg. I really saw no signs of any of them being close to laying so I was pretty shocked when I found it today. I really thought my BCM might be the first to lay because she's had a very red comb for a while but guess I was wrong. It's been around 10 months since I've had a backyard egg so I was pretty emotional after finding it. It made me think of my old girls and how much I miss them. I'm not as bonded to my new girls, I think because I'm too paranoid to free range them in the yard still so they don't sit outside the window all day where I can see them. I hope I'll be able to get closer to them as time goes on.

Agreed.. Its like the best surprise.. Ever.. You can always tell a new egg from the old ones.. Smaller and just a bit of blood streak..
