Arizona Chickens

My ladies were heat stressed yesterday. I lost one and found two stumbling. Put down ice bottles, put one in the water, and turned on the water sprinkler and wet everything down. It's supposed to be this hot until Sunday.

Went out to check this morning and at the same temperature they were fine. No idea what the difference is, but they have more ice blocks.
Mine are struggling too today......My DH and I had doctor appts from 10 am to 3pm so I didn't put down the running water.......I immediately turned it on when I got home......they all ran to it and stood in the water. Yes they have iced pans of water and a mister but its the running water they love most!!

Look who decided to get a drink of water out of the dog pool, I can't believe she didn't drown & or the dog's get a hold of her. I believe it to female grackle

my silkie roo seems to be doing good with the no crow collar I made, though I'm not outside much with this heat to really observe him a ton, but I haven't heard him crow since last week. I think he attempted to mount one of my girls today though. None of the pullets were squatting for me as I've been testing them the past week or 2, approaching them with my hand out to see if they'd react with a squat. They are just under 18 weeks but I found a teeny little pullet egg in the run today. I'm assuming it was from my silver laced cochin as she's the only one I have that "should" lay a light brown egg. I really saw no signs of any of them being close to laying so I was pretty shocked when I found it today. I really thought my BCM might be the first to lay because she's had a very red comb for a while but guess I was wrong. It's been around 10 months since I've had a backyard egg so I was pretty emotional after finding it. It made me think of my old girls and how much I miss them. I'm not as bonded to my new girls, I think because I'm too paranoid to free range them in the yard still so they don't sit outside the window all day where I can see them. I hope I'll be able to get closer to them as time goes on.
Are you holding them?

I found a great deal on banana plants at the Lowe's clearance rack after a tip from @City farm . They were only $5 for these big red banana plants, though they do have some sun damage. I'm hoping to get them planted where the chickens can't get to them since they decimated the foliage on my baby Raja Pura banana. :he
It was a score! ! I wish i would if bought them all.. but most of you know my favorite sentence "i have a free plant for you" Yeehaw! !

Ya'll think chicken's & duck's are addicting. Growing your own food is so much fun.. we need more land for it all.. i think i am going to start using my neighbor's yard.. with permission of course.

One more photo.. 114' today Jacqueline won't fit in with the rest of them. We have a horse trough full of water lettuce. I think they're just too afraid to get in. Rick & Lauren get in, but not these girls.

Mine are really struggling today. I have a feeling a few of them will be living in pet crates in the house before the afternoon is done.

We sure worry as Mama's about our kids don't we! Glad I'm not alone. It makes me feel bad to see them panting so hard. I usually go in and stick their feet in some water to help them When I can get out there to them.

Yes, I refilled water after the hose ran cool! I can wash and rinse dishes in hot water from my cold side since it is ran through my attic, lol. Good grief! My freezer is full of frost I can't even cool water bottles anymore, My poor babies! -.-

I lost one of my hatchery Easter /Olive Egger yesterday too. Total of two losses Actually three this summer. I'd lost a backyard mix Rooster when I moved him from a heavily shaded cage to cage that had bit more Sun and still shade from on the West. Even with it in the shade and he had quite a bit of water, had to have been to much of a difference. Hugs to those with losses.
