I also went through mypetchicken.com for my little flock, and I am thrilled with the outcome. My babies arrived healthy and ready to go in a little box at the post office, and have grown into beautiful laying hens. They were 100% correct on the sexing, which as @Bobby Basham noted, is more of an art form than a science :cool:. One of the breeds I chose was a Buff Orpington. I adore her, she has been a pleasure and is very sociable with people and the other chickens. I would check their website out and see what they've got.

I'm not a spokesperson for MPC, but feel that they are a great venue for those backyard enthusiasts wanting to start a small backyard flock. I read somewhere that there is another company in the Midwest that also does small orders.

Yes, the shipping might seem a bit much, but I consider it like that old reliable 24/7 convenience store that has everything you need when all the other places are closed. They charge a bit more, but you still get what you want.

Anyhoo, with more and more people jumping on the bandwagon raising chickens, this could possibly, with more people getting involved, change city ordinances, allowing flocks in the city and so many people wouldn't have to go "underground" to sneak them in.

My hat's off to them and the service they provide. Check out their website, products, guarantees and reimbursement policies.

Used dog houses can be had for very cheap off craigslist, and make a great little "grow out" coop just for that. All you have to do is put a perch inside and toss in some wood chips or some kind of substrate and it's ready to go!

One of my best friends is PLYWOOD. Take an inexpensive piece, cut in half, screw together, maybe with a couple of L-brackets for more support, and create a temporary A-frame.

Hey, Esprence...I don't know if anyone else has done it, but Welcome to this Board!

Where are you located? There is a wealth of information and quite the education here, if you've read any previous postings before joining. I like to read many, many pages to get the feel of a group before jumping in. It may take a week or two in my spare time, but it was entirely worth it.

AZ folks are awesome, and maybe I applaud them ad nauseum, as to how they've educated me over the years. Some live far North while others are close to the Mexico border and everyone else in between, whether it be central, far East/West. Weather conditions vary all over the state, so we all have different growing situations whether it be livestock, crops, shelters, predation etc., and we reach out to each other with our particular issues, and it seems that no question is left unanswered.

You'll reap the benefits of hanging with the AZ forum. --BB

I had to get 15 min order of Buff ORPINGTON
I will need to regime at least 10 depending on how many survive.
They are coming from Hoover Hatchery
