Arizona Chickens

It will depend on what you're looking for and where in Az you are. If you're looking for pets, or just for eggs, its almost chick season at the local farm supply stores. I know that there are few places around Phx that have speciality breeds like naked necks and silkies. My pullets just started laying so I'm a few.months from chicks. I'm way south in Tombstone.

I am up in the white mountains. I'm looking for eggs but also as a pet. Was thinking maybe a couple silkies, araucanas or ameraucanas or cream legbar, Easter Eggers, Black Copper Maran or welsummer or pendesenca. I'm kinda looking for a variation I guess.

I was up there in your area before a few year's ago, back when my DH used to participate in those archery tournament's. It's beautiful up there! I only have 6 one month old Naked Neck's chick's that are available right now, and I'll have more chick's hatching out the end of this month.

Easter eggers should be fairly easy to locate, Araucana and Ameraucana can be tricker, because many people pass off EE as those breeds. I had to order my BCM online. They go really quick when available.

And here I sit with 6 BCM hatching egg's in my incubator that the person that I ordered my B/B/S NN hatching egg's from threw them in to make up the difference the lack of the one's that I wanted. I will be selling any of the BCM's that hatch out from them, as I don't want them. I couldn't see just tossing them though.

Many peeps like the assortment of colored eggs for their baskets. I never had BCM, but did have EE. If I was a lil closer, I would adopt one of those HONEYS. :)

Where are you located? So you will have a black copper maran? What else will you have at the end of the month?

I had such problems locating them locally, I went ahead and ordered online. It's great that you hatched them. Someone is going to be a lucky Chicken Tender.

Rural of the city of Maricopa, near the Harrah's Ak-Chin Casino. All of the one's that are currently in my incubator are Naked Neck's, except for the 6 egg's that are Black Copper Maran's, so I have to wait and see how many and what hatches out.

I do have a couple of order pullets that I might sell, but they haven't started laying egg's yet. One of them is an EE/Calico Queen mix, and the smallest one of the Barnevelder's because my rooster is pretty big.

I hope that you got the one's that lay's the darker chocolate egg's like these are. I have heard that some aren't as dark as they should be.

Like other chickies the colors vary tremendously within the breed. BCMs go from usually a darker brown to that dark chocolate color. It is rare to get the darker color. I have a welsummer and a welsummer NN - they both lay brown spotted eggs but the NN cross has many more spots. Just depends on their DNA!! Have fun finding what you like. You are in an area where you can get more densely feathered breeds - that's fun too.
